1. Improved mapping of steel recycling from an industrial perspective
Abstract : The results from this study show that it is possible to obtain data series on the steel scrap collection based on mass balance model on the crude steel production figures by steelmaking reactor type and additional knowledge on process metallurgy as well as information on inputs and outputs into the reactors with an area correlation coefficient of 0,91 compared to data obtained from trade statistics. Furthermore, the study shows that based on a new method it is possible to calculate the time duration of mass flows on a continuous basis. READ MORE

2. Top-down Methodology to Identify Opportunities for Industrial Symbiosis Partnerships
Abstract : Industries in Europe are responsible for generating approximately 190 Mtons of waste; a figure which is expected to rise, as a significant increase in the consumption of raw materials is predicted to occur in the near future. This may lead to escalating environmental problems, including resource depletion, soil degradation, and climate change. READ MORE

3. Environmental, Resource and Health Assessments of Hard Materials and Material Substitution: The Cases of Cemented Carbide and Polycrystalline Diamond
Abstract : The conventional hard material used in manufacturing industry, cemented carbide (WC-Co), mainly consists of the geochemically scarce elements tungsten and cobalt. This use of scarce resources could potentially be avoided by a material substitution to the more abundant and largely carbon-based material polycrystalline diamond (PCD). READ MORE

4. Behaviour and material properties of composites for crash modelling
Abstract : The transport industry must find solutions to reduce its impact on climate change. A promising way to reduce the weight of vehicles and therefore to reduce the CO2 emissions is to introduce components made of lightweight composite materials, in particular laminated carbon fibre reinforced polymers (CFRPs). 5. Water Absorption in Two-Layer Masonry Systems - Properties, profiles and predictions
Abstract : The main impetus for this research was the desire to verify models for determining transient moisture profiles in the capillary range. For the evaluations, transient moisture profiles were both simulated and measured, after which the results of the two methods were compared. READ MORE
