  1. 21. Parametric FE-modelling of non-linear racking behaviour of light-frame shear walls and modules used for multi-storey timber buildings

    Author : Le Kuai; Sigurdur Ormarsson; Johan Vessby; Marie Johansson; Kay-Uwe Schober; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Abstract : Wood is a sustainable material from nature that has a longstanding traditionas a building material. Compared to other construction materials, such as steeland concrete, the significance of using structural timber and engineered wood products has increased in recent years because they are regarded as a renewable source and require a low carbon footprint and less energy consumption during production. 2. 22. When and why is pre-treatment of substrates for anaerobic digestion useful?

    Author : My Carlsson; Hinrich Uellendahl; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Waste Science and Technology; Avfallsteknik;

    Abstract : Anaerobic digestion (AD) plays a key role in the recovery of renewable energy, in the form of biogas, and nutrients from waste materials. Pre-treatment of AD substrates has the potential to improve process performance in terms of increased methane yield and solids reduction, but pretreatments are not yet widely implemented into full-scale AD systems. 3. 23. Spatial control of biting behavior : to bite and not to slip

    Author : Joannis Grigoriadis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: During biting and chewing the periodontal mechanoreceptors (PMRs) signal sensory information about the point of attack, the direction of the tooth loads and the intensity of the force with a high sensitivity to very low forces. The sensory information from the PMRs is used by the central nervous system (CNS) to control and position the food morsels and direct the force vectors during biting and chewing. READ MORE

  4. 24. Suffusion of Glacial Till Dam Cores : An Experimental Investigation

    Author : Ingrid Silva; Jan Laue; Peter Viklander; Cristina Jommi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : Suffusion, also called internal instability, is an internal erosion mechanism that occurs in embankment dams when fine-grained particles are washed out of the core soil matrix by seepage. Initiation of internal erosion depends mainly on three major factors: grain size distribution of the soil, stress conditions and hydraulic load; whilst its continuation depends of the filter properties. 5. 25. Written news at the crossroads : Entrepreneurial processes of reproduction and novelty in an institutional field in crisis

    Author : Joaquín Cestino; Olof Brunninge; Mart Ots; Roy Suddaby; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; bricolage; capital; constraints; decoupling; entrepreneurial processes; field in crisis; institutional arrangements; journalism; newspapers; novelty; reproduction; written news;

    Abstract : This dissertation explores entrepreneurial processes in an institutional field incrisis. It is based on the inductive reinterpretation of four original papers that, combined, study activities of individuals searching for solutions to organizational problems in incumbent and startup newspapers.
