  1. 1. Method Development for Characterisation of Superalloy used in Containment Design

    Author : Ted Sjöberg; Mats Oldenburg; Jörgen Kajberg; Odd Geir Lademo; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Due to the trend of increasing environmental demands put on civil aviation, manufacturersof commercial aircraft engines meet increased pressure to reduce weight. Modernturbofan engines represent up to almost one tenth of an aircraft's total weight, meaning areduction of engine component weight of just 30 kg is estimated to reduce CO2 emissionsby 400 tonnes over the lifetime of a medium sized commercial aircraft. 2. 2. Some Aspects of Gas Turbine Fuel Preparation and Turbomachinery Response to LCV Fuels

    Author : Pontus Eriksson; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PDA; LDA; PIV; atomization; spray; off-design; biogas; combustor; biofuel; turbine; Gas turbine; compressor;

    Abstract : This thesis gives some background information on environmental issues as the scientific community at large currently sees it. It tries to relate the plethora of current combustion technologies which may be used in gas turbines to those issues. Some basic principles on combustion design are given. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modelling of TMF Crack Growth in Polycrystalline Gas Turbine Alloys : Accounting for Crack Closure Effects

    Author : Jordi Loureiro-Homs; Kjell Simonsson; Robert Eriksson; Daniel Leidermark; Tomas Månsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The main objective of the work presented in this Licentiate of Engineering thesis is to investigate and model the fatigue crack propagation behaviour of the nickel-based superalloy Inconel 792, with special attention to the industrial lifing of high-temperature components. In-phase (IP) crack propagation tests have been performed at different temperatures and loading regimes, including extended hold times. READ MORE

  4. 4. Process development for investment casting of thin-walled components : Manufacturing of light weight components

    Author : Mohsin Raza; Björn Fagerström; Jarfors Anders; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Investment casting; fluidity; thin sections; porosity; grain structure; turbine blades and Niyama criterion; Innovation and Design; innovation och design;

    Abstract : Manufacturing processes are getting more and more complex with increasing demands of advanced and light weight engineering components, especially in aerospace industry. The global requirements on lower fuel consumption and emissions are increasing the demands in lowering weight of cast components. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modelling of Forming and Welding in Alloy 718

    Author : Lluís Pérez Caro; Mats Oldenburg; Eva-Lis Odenberger; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Forming; welding; Alloy 718; damage; GISSMO; failure; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : The reduction of fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions are currently a key factor for the aviation industry due to major concerns about climate change and more restrictive environmental laws. One way to reduce both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions is by significantly decreasing the vehicle’s weight while increasing engine's efficiency. READ MORE
