11. Workpiece steels protecting cutting tools from wear : A study of the effects of alloying elements on material transfer and coating damage mechanisms
Abstract : The vision of this thesis is to improve the machinability of workpiece steels. Workpiece material frequently transfers to the cutting tools during machining, and the transfer layers then forming on the tools may give both good and bad effects on machining performance and tool life. 14. Numerical Study of the Gas Flow and Heat Transfer during Electromagnetic Stirring and Post Combustion in EAFs
Abstract : The effect of electromagnetic stirring on scrap melting and post combustion in two different electric arc furnaces (EAFs) have been studied using numerical modelling. The effect of electromagnetic stirring on melting of a piece of scrap located at the eccentric bottom tapping (EBT) region of an EAF has been studied. READ MORE

15. A Study on the Reaction between MgO Based Refractories and Slag-Towards the Development of Carbon-free Lining Material
Abstract : In present thesis, the fundamental studies on the reaction between MgO based refractories and slag were undertaken for the development of a carbon-free bonding MgO lining material. Alumina was selected as a potential binder material. Due to MgO-Al2O3 chemical reaction, the developed refractory was bonded by MgO·Al2O3 spinel phase. READ MORE
