21. Magnetoplasmonic nanostructures
Abstract : Surfaces that are nanopatterned, metallic, and magnetic can support surface plasmon resonances, providing an alternative and effective way to reconfigure flat optical components. Utilising a range of near- and far-field characterisation techniques, the optical and magneto-optical properties of lithographically patterned thin magnetic films are investigated. READ MORE

22. Influence of Self-trapping, Clamping and Confinement on Hydrogen Absorption
Abstract : The dissociation of hydrogen molecules at surfaces is the first step in the absorption process. If the absorbing material is covered by an oxide, this layer will determine the effective uptake rate of an underlying absorbing material. READ MORE

23. Flow of Colloidal Mesophases
Abstract : This dissertation presents new work and results in the flow of complex fluids and experimental methodologies for their investigation. Plate-like colloidal particles of kaolinite and nickel hydroxide are studied. A study of lamellar fragments and their mixture with the nickel hydroxide particles is also presented. READ MORE

24. Tailoring Properties of Materials at the Nanoscale
Abstract : The knowledge of growth and characterizing techniques is essential for the preparation of high quality thin films and multilayers. Here, structural properties have been investigated by X-ray reflectivity, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy while the composition was determined by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry. 25. Magnetic properties of hard-soft amorphous nanolaminates
Abstract : Amorphous magnetic thin film heterostructures and multilayers are often used in data storage as well as spintronic devices. Spintronics will help the next generation of nano-electronic devices to increase their memory and processing power and reduce their power consumption. READ MORE
