  1. 16. On complex convexity

    Author : David Jacquet; Mikael Passare; Peter Pflug; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ℂ-convex; Linearly convex; Charathéodory metric; Kobayshi metric; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : This thesis is about complex convexity. We compare it with other notions of convexity such as ordinary convexity, linear convexity, hyperconvexity and pseudoconvexity. We also do detailed study about ℂ-convex Hartogs domains, which leads to a definition of ℂ-convex functions of class C1. READ MORE

  2. 17. Existence theorems for noncoercive incremental contact problems with Coulomb friction

    Author : Andreas Rietz; Lars-Erik Andersson; Jaroslav Haslinger; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; Coulomb friction; noncoercive; normal compliance; mollification; MATEMATIK; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : Friction is a phenomenon which is present in most mechanical devices and frequently encountered in everyday life. In particular, understanding of this phenomenon is important in the modelling of contact between an elastic object and an obstacle. READ MORE

  3. 18. On Half-Space and Shock-Wave Problems for Discrete Velocity Models of the Boltzmann Equation

    Author : Niclas Bernhoff; Alexander Bobylev; Giuseppe Toscani; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boltzmann equation; discrete velocity models; boundary value problems; shock waves; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : We study some questions related to general discrete velocity (with arbitrarily number of velocities) models (DVMs) of the Boltzmann equation. In the case of plane stationary problems the typical DVM reduces to a dynamical system (system of ODEs). Properties of such systems are studied in the most general case. READ MORE

  4. 19. Some numerical and analytical methods for equations of wave propagation and kinetic theory

    Author : Eva Mossberg; Alexander Bobylev; Giovanni Russo; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; wave propagation; finite difference metods high order methods; Landau-Fokker-Planck equation; Monte-Carlo simulations; Boltzmann equation; hard sphere model; eigenvalue problem; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of two different parts, related to two different fields in mathematical physics: wave propagation and kinetic theory of gases. Various mathematical and computational problems for equations from these areas are treated. READ MORE

  5. 20. Computer Vision Based Analysis of Animal Behavior

    Author : Tobias Palmér; Mathematical Imaging Group; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Datorseende; bildanalys; djurbeteende; neurofysiologi; tillämpningar; refraktion; Computer vision; animal tracking; behavioral analysis; refractions; underwater images; relative pose;

    Abstract : The behavior of animals is commonly studied in medicine and biology. There is a large variation in what animals are studied, in experimental paradigms and purpose.However, many studies on animal behavior have at least one thing in common - it typically involves measuring or studying the kinematics of the animal.
