    Abstract : Children’s early mathematics learning and development have become a topic of increasing interest over the past decade since early mathematical knowledge and skills have been shown to be a strong predictor of later mathematics performance. Understanding how children develop mathematical knowledge and skills and how they can be supported in their early learning could thus prove to be a vital component in promoting learning of more formal mathematics. 2. 2. Mathematics teachers' conceptions about equations

    Author : Iiris Attorps; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; algebra; conception; equation; learning; mathematics teacher; Subject didactics; Ämnesdidaktik; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : The aim of this study is to describe and to clarify the mathematics teachers’ subject matter and pedagogical content conceptions about equations. As the basis of these conceptions, the teachers’ experiences of the concept learning of equations from their own school time are described. READ MORE

  3. 3. On Mathematical Reasoning : being told or finding out

    Author : Mathias Norqvist; Johan Lithner; Bert Jonsson; Catarina Rudälv; Kristina Juter; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : School-mathematics has been shown to mainly comprise rote-learning of procedures where the considerations of intrinsic mathematical properties are scarce. At the same time theories and syllabi emphasize competencies like problem solving and reasoning. READ MORE

  4. 4. Improving Teaching, Improving Learning, Improving as a Teacher : Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching as an Object of Learning

    Author : Jorryt van Bommel; Bo Dahlin; Ola Helenius; Raymond Bjuland; Karlstads universitet; []

    Abstract : This thesis concerns teaching in mathematics teacher education and is based on the implementation of a learning study at teacher training. The overall purpose was to investigate in what way teacher training could facilitate and improve student teachers’ Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching (MKT). READ MORE

  5. 5. Reinforcement Learning and Dynamical Systems

    Author : Björn Lindenberg; Karl-Olof Lindahl; Marc G. Bellemare; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; artificial intelligence; distributional reinforcement learning; Markov decision processes; Bellman operators; deep learning; multi-armed bandits; Bayesian bandits; conjugate priors; Thompson sampling; linear finite dynamical systems; cycle orbits; fixed-point systems; Mathematics; Matematik; Computer Science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns reinforcement learning and dynamical systems in finite discrete problem domains. Artificial intelligence studies through reinforcement learning involves developing models and algorithms for scenarios when there is an agent that is interacting with an environment. READ MORE
