  1. 16. Inflammatory Markers, Respiratory Diseases, Lung Function and Associated Gender Differences

    Author : Inga Sif Ólafsdóttir; Christer Janson; Anders Blomberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; C-reactive protein; matrix metalloproteinase-9; tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1; COPD; FEV1; FVC; lung function; systemic inflammation; gender differences; Lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Abstract : Systemic inflammation is associated with impaired lung function. Inflammation is part of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but the local and systemic inflammatory pattern differs. READ MORE

  2. 17. Matrix degrading proteases in the ovary : expression and function

    Author : Patrik Wahlberg; Tor Ny; Ilpo Huhtaniemi; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; ovary; ovulation; corpus luteum; plasminogen; PA; MMP; rat; mouse; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Extracellular matrix degrading proteases from the plasminogen (plg) activator (PA) and the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) systems have been implicated as important mediators of ovulation and corpus luteum (CL) formation and regression. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the expression and regulation of PAs and MMPs in the ovary and to examine their functional roles for CL formation and function. READ MORE

  3. 18. Effect of cycline-dependent kinase and matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors on hematopoietic and leukemic cells

    Author : Hairong Song; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Rapid advances in molecular and cellular biology have improved the understanding of the mechanisms involved in leukemia development. Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) have been suggested as potential therapeutic targets and a number of pharmacologic inhibitors of CDKs and MMPs have been developed. 4. 19. Cartilage destruction - Release of type IX collagen in joint disease

    Author : Mikael Danfelter; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cartilage destruction; matrix metalloproteinase 13; ECM; assay; neoepitope; NC4 domain; Type IX collagen; fragment;

    Abstract : Cartilage is of vital importance for the function of joints. It is characterized by a prominent extracellular matrix (ECM) that is produced and maintained by relatively few cells of one type, the chondrocyte. READ MORE

  5. 20. Interleukin-17 in models of neutrophilic lung disease

    Author : Stefan Ivanov; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Interleukin-17; Interleukin-23; Matrix metalloproteinase-9; neutrophils; macrophages; CD4 cells; innate response; lungs;

    Abstract : Several acute or chronic lung disorders like adult respiratory distress syndrome, acute severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic lung allograft rejection and cystic fibrosis, are associated with signs of an excess innate response in the bronchoalveolar space. Neutrophils may play a pathogenic role in these lung diseases by contributing to non-specific bronchial hyperresponsiveness and bronchial hypersecretion, as well as to epithelial damage and tissue remodelling.
