  1. 6. Migration on extracellular matrix surface and infiltration into matrix - two distinguishable activities of human T cells

    Author : Jyrki Ivanoff; Karl-Gösta Sundqvist; Joachim Lundahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; extracellular matrix; fibronectin; collagen type IV; laminin; neuropeptide; chemokine; TIMP-1; MMP-9; T cells; Migration; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Abstract : Migration of T-lymphocytes on a surface coated with extracellular matrix (ECM) components (two-dimensional (2-D) migration) and migration (infiltration) into a matrix (Three-dimesional (3-D) migration) are complex events and the underlying mechanisms are not yet fully understood. Here 2-D and 3-D migration were studied by use of seven leukemic T-cell lines representing discrete differentiation stages, a non-leukemic T-cell clone, and normal peripheral blood T cells. 2. 7. Effects of sex steroids and tamoxifen on matrix metalloproteinase activity and generation of endostatin in the breast

    Author : Ulrika W. Nilsson; Charlotta Dabrosin; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiogenesis; Breast cancer; TGF-β1; Endostatin; Estradiol; Mammary gland; Matrix metalloproteinases; MCF-7; Microdialysis; Nude mice; Tamoxifen; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : Sex steroids are inevitable in women. However, long-term exposure to sex steroids increases the risk of breast cancer. A complete understanding of sex steroid control of the breast and how it relates to breast cancer risk is still lacking. READ MORE

  3. 8. Biomolecular Aspects of Flexor Tendon Healing

    Author : Maria Berglund; Monica Wiig; Olof Nilsson; Jan Fridén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Flexor tendon healing; Growth factor; Metalloproteinase; Collagen; Proteoglycan; Myofibroblast; Hyaluronan synthase; Mast cell; Hand surgery; Handkirurgi; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Abstract : Flexor tendon injuries in zone II of the hand (i.e. between the distal volar crease and the distal interphalangeal joint) can be costly for both the afflicted individual and society because of the high cost of a long rehabilitation period, complicated by tendon ruptures or scarring with adhesion formation, causing impaired range of motion. 4. 9. Crosstalk between colorectal cancer cells and tumour-associated macrophages

    Author : Yuan Zhang; Malmö Cellpatologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CD47; tumour-associated macrophage; matrix metalloproteinase; cell migration; colon cancer;

    Abstract : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer and the fourth leading cause of death from cancer worldwide. People suffering from inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohns’ disease and ulcerative colitis, are at an increased risk of developing CRC. The development of CRC is highly influenced by the tumour microenvironment. READ MORE

  5. 10. Remodelling of extracellular matrix in rectal cancer and preoperative radiotherapy

    Author : Eva Angenete; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : radiotherapy; rectal cancer; extracellular matrix; MMP-2; PAI-1; uPA; Calprotectin; TGF-beta1;

    Abstract : BACKGROUND Preoperative radiotherapy reduces local recurrence due to rectal cancer, but increases postoperative morbidity. The aim of this thesis was to study the impact of radiotherapy on extracellular matrix (ECM) remodelling enzymes and growth factors after radiotherapy and also their possible use as surrogate markers for complications.
