  1. 1. Matrix metalloproteinases in Helicobacter inducedgastritis

    Author : Philip Bergin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Helicobacter pylori; Helicobacter felis; Matrix metalloproteinase; macrophage; ; Gastritis;

    Abstract : Helicobacter pylori infects the stomach and areas of gastric metaplasia in the duodenum. Theinfection leads to peptic ulcers or gastric cancers in 10-20% of infected individuals, while themajority are more or less asymptomatic. However, active chronic gastritis develops in all infectedindividuals, often in association with atrophic gastritis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Towards surgical use of matrix metalloproteinase biology

    Author : Björn Pasternak; Per Aspenberg; Pentti Tengvall; Yrjö T Konttinen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Achilles tendon; colon; tetracyclines; tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases TIMP ; wound healing.; colorectal surgery; extracellular matrix; humans; matrix metalloproteinases MMPs ; rats; surgical anastomosis; sutures; tendon injuries; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Abstract : Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), such as collagenases, are a family of enzymes capable of degrading most constituents of the extracellular matrix. MMPs are thought to be involved in the aetiopathogenesis of tendon rupture. Additionally, failure of healing has in some instances been associated with elevated levels of MMPs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Effects of sex steroids and tamoxifen on matrix metalloproteinase activity and generation of endostatin in the breast

    Author : Ulrika W. Nilsson; Charlotta Dabrosin; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiogenesis; Breast cancer; TGF-β1; Endostatin; Estradiol; Mammary gland; Matrix metalloproteinases; MCF-7; Microdialysis; Nude mice; Tamoxifen; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : Sex steroids are inevitable in women. However, long-term exposure to sex steroids increases the risk of breast cancer. A complete understanding of sex steroid control of the breast and how it relates to breast cancer risk is still lacking. READ MORE

  5. 5. Matrix metalloproteinases and their inhibitors in ocular neovascularization

    Author : Björn Steén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Angiogenesis; Neovascularization; Retina; Bruch membrane; Cornea; MMP; TIMP; VEGF; In situ hybridization.;

    Abstract : Growth of pathological new vessels (angiogenesis) in the eye is a leading cause of severe vision-loss. Ocular angiogenesis is seen in the anterior part of the eye as in corneal neovascularization, or in the posterior part as in diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity or age-related macular degeneration.
