11. Determination of the structures of three bacterial polysaccharides and synthesis and use of new spacers for glycoconjugate formation
Abstract : The first part of this work describes studies on the structures of three bacterial polysaccharides, i.e., the extracellular polysaccharides of Streptococcus pneumoniae type 2 and Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens strain X6C61 and the O-antigenic side-chain of the lipopolysaccharide of Escherichia coli 086. 12. Empirical Essays on Railway Infrastructure Costs in Sweden
Abstract : The subject of this thesis concerns pricing the use of transport infrastructure. We are empirically investigating the relationship between railway traffic volumes and infrastructure management costs. More specifically, we are interested in estimating the change in infrastructure management costs from marginal variations in traffic volumes, i.e. READ MORE

13. Metal Cluster Reactivity. Adsorption of small molecules in biomolecular collisions
Abstract : Metal clusters can be characterized as the tiniest possible metal particles, containing only an easily counted number of atoms. In this work, reactions between metal clusters and diatomic molecules have been investigated. We have constructed an experimental set-up to produce and detect clusters, and to investigate their chemical reactivity. READ MORE

14. Radiological evaluation of esophageal function in dysphagia with special emphasis on achalasia
Abstract : In idiopathic achalasia, degeneration of the inhibitory innervation of the esophageal smooth muscle results in absence of primary peristalsis and in incomplete relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). All treatments for achalasia aim at reducing the pressure gradient across the LES, thus facilitating esophageal emptying by gravity. READ MORE

15. Synthesis and Properties of Substituted Poly(thiophenes)
Abstract : The aim of this work was to synthesize new substituted poly(thiophenes) with certain desired properties. Soluble and meltable poly(thiophenes) can be prepared if a long alkyl side-chain is attached to each thiophene ring along the polymer backbone. Such polymers show electrical conductivity when they are doped (oxidised). READ MORE
