  1. 1. Performance evaluation and improvements of quantitation accuracy in transmission and positron emission computer assisted tomography

    Author : Mats Bergström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : A prerequisite for the full utilization of transmission and positron emission computer assisted tomography in research and clinical practice, is a deep understanding of the physical properties and limitations of the techniques. The very complex performance of the tomograph, encountered in a diagnostic situation, can be appreciated subjectively by an experienced observer. READ MORE

  2. 2. A Search for the Masked Mechanism Behind IgG-Mediated Suppression of Antibody Responses

    Author : Joakim Bergström; Birgitta Heyman; Jenny Hallgren Martinsson; Frida Henningsson Johnson; Mats Bemark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; FcγR; complement; sheep erythrocytes; IgG-mediated immune suppression; rhesus prophylaxis; rhesus D antigen; germinal center; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : Antibodies passively administered together with their specific antigen can enhance or suppress the specific antibody response. This phenomenon is known as antibody feedback regulation. Whether this modulation causes up- or downregulation of the antibody response depends both on the antibody isotype and the antigen used. READ MORE

  3. 3. Influence of microstructure on fatigue and ductility properties of tool steels

    Author : Mats Randelius; Rolf Sandström; Jens Bergström; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tool steels; fatigue; ductility; carbides; carbide cluster; inclusion; size distribution; modelling; FEM; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : Fatigue and ductility properties in various tool steels, produced by powder metallurgy, spray forming or conventionally ingot casting, have been analysed experimentally and successfully compared to developed models. The models are able to predict the fatigue limit and cause for fatigue fracture, and strain- and stress-development until fracture during the ductile fracture process respectively. READ MORE

  4. 4. Palaeosurfaces and palaeovalleys on North Atlantic previously glaciated passive margins : reference forms for conclusions on uplift and erosion

    Author : Johan M. Bonow; Karna Lidmar-Bergström; Clas Hättestrand; Jens-Ove Näslund; Mats Olvmo; Adrian Hall; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; palaeosurface; palaeovalley; uplift; valley; incision; glacial erosion; weathering; Neogene; southern Norway; West Greenland; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : Palaeosurfaces and palaeovalleys are landforms under destruction in the present climate and/or tectonic regime, and thus mainly reflect processes not active today. Uplifted palaeosurfaces exist along the formerly glaciated passive continental margins around the North Atlantic. READ MORE

  5. 5. Acute febrile illness, antibiotic use, and the role of diagnostics to target treatment in India

    Author : Bronwen Holloway; Anna Bergström; Helena Hildenwall; Mats Målqvist; Sabiha Essack; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fever; acute febrile illness; fever; infectious disease; diagnostics; c-reactive protein; antibiotics; antibiotic resistance; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases;

    Abstract :     Aim: This thesis examined the causes of acute febrile illness (AFI), the current use of antibiotics and diagnostics, and evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of C-Reactive Protein (CRP) to differentiate bacterial from non-bacterial causes of AFI in children and adult outpatients at R.D. Gardi Medical College hospital, in Ujjain, India. READ MORE
