    Author : Mats Dreifaldt; Domingos Souza; Lars Norgren; Mats G. Karlsson; Michael R. Dashwood; Anders Jeppson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac surgery; Coronary artery bypass; Saphenous vein; Radial artery; Internal thoracic artery; Vasa vasorum; Nitric oxide; Graft patency; Medicine; Medicin;

    Abstract : A novel technique for saphenous vein (SV) graft harvesting, the No-touch technique (NT), has been developed at the Dept. of Cardiovascular surgery, Örebro University hospital. With NT the SV is harvested with a pedicle of surrounding tissue. This avoids graft spasm and eliminates the need for distension. READ MORE

  2. 2. Direct Thrombin Inhibitors in Treatment and Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism: Dose – Concentration – Response Relationships

    Author : Marie Cullberg; Mats O. Karlsson; Ulf G. Eriksson; Nick H.G. Holford; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmaceutical biosciences; Ximelagatran; pharmacokinetic; pharmacodynamic; activated partial thromboplastin time; utility function; dosing strategy; venous thromboembolism; NONMEM; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap;

    Abstract : For prevention and treatment of thrombotic diseases with an anticoagulant drug it is important that an adequate dose is given to avoid occurrence or recurrence of thrombosis, without increasing the risk of bleeding and other adverse events to unacceptable levels. The aim of this thesis was to develop mathematical models that describe the dose-concentration (pharmacokinetic) and concentration-response (pharmacodynamic) relationships of direct thrombin inhibitors, in order to estimate optimal dosages for treatment and long-term secondary prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE). 3. 3. T lymphocytes in allergic rhinitis

    Author : Mats G. Karlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The role of the T lymphocyte and T cell associated events in the allergic reaction were investigated in the nasal mucosa and in the peripheral blood. Patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis (birch pollen) and healthy controls were subjected to an allergen provocation study during non-pollen season. READ MORE

  4. 4. Economic and Environmental Benefits of CHP-based District Heating Systems in Sweden

    Author : Shahnaz Amiri; Björn G. Karlsson; Louise Trygg; Mats Westermark; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Future energy systems and thus the climate are affected by many factors, such as energy resources, energy demand, energy policy and the choice of energy technologies. Energy systems of the future are facing three main challenges; the steady growth of global energy demand, the energy resource depletion, as well as the increasing emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases and their impact on climate change. Abstract : Cervical cancer (CC) is caused by a persistent infection of certain types of the human papillomavirus (HPV). Even though great progress has been made in strategies for prevention, and treatment of CC, there is still a need for improved methods in screening and management of women diagnosed with CC. READ MORE
