  1. 1. Speed Choice : The Driver, the Road and Speed Limits

    Author : Mats Haglund; Nils Petter Gregersen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; Driving behaviour; Speed choice; Risk estimates; Enforcement; Attitudes; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : Speed choice is one of the more characteristic features of driver behaviour. The speed a driver chooses to travel at determines the degree of difficulty he or she operates under. Higher speeds lead to more accidents, higher accident risk and more severe consequences of an accident. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tick-borne encephalitis : prognosis, immunization and virus strain characterization

    Author : Mats Haglund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : tick-borne encephalitis; tick-borne encephalitis virus; human; clinical picture; sequelae; virus characterization; phylogeny; vaccination; neutralization;

    Abstract : The aims were to investigate the morbidity associated with tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) both in the acute phase and at long-term follow-up, to develop a rapid neutralization test for confirmation of TBEV-specific antibody response and to study the serological response after TBE-vaccination and, finally, to characterize Swedish human TBEV isolates. The morbidity was studied in one retrospective follow-up study of consecutive TBE-patients, treated during a 10-year period (Paper 1) and in one prospective study of TBE-patients with aseptic meningoencephalitis of non-TBE etiology as a reference group (Paper II). 3. 3. The influence of soil and contaminant properties on the efficiency of physical and chemical soil remediation methods

    Author : Sofia Jonsson; Mats Tysklind; Peter Haglund; Staffan Lundstedt; Tuula Tuhkanen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fenton’s reagent; ozone; solvent washing; granular activated carbon; GAC; Persistent organic compounds; Persistenta organiska föreningar; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Abstract :  A vast number of sites that have been contaminated by industrial activities have been identified worldwide. Many such sites now pose serious risks to humans and the environment. Given the large number of contaminated sites there is a great need for efficient, cost-effective  remediation methods. READ MORE

  4. 4. Epidemiological and Ecological Studies of Tick-borne Encephalitis Virus

    Author : Pontus Lindblom; Per-Eric Lindgren; Pia Forsberg; Mats Haglund; Jan Ernerudh; Sarah E Randolph; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Ticks are blood-sucking parasites that are an inconvenience for both humans and animals. The tick by itself is normally harmless unless they attack in excessive numbers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Persistency, bioaccumulation and toxicity assessment of selected brominated flame retardants

    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; persistence; bioaccumulation; toxicity; biodegradation; biotransformation; PBT; read across; soil; earthworm; zebrafish; copepod; BFRs; polybrominated diphenyl ethers; tetrabromobisphenol A; hexabromocyclododecane; hexabromobenzene; 2; 4; 6-tribromophenol; tetrabromobisphenol A; 2-hydroxyethyl ether; 1; 2-dibromo-4- 1; 2-dibromoethyl cyclohexane; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are chemicals used in e.g. electronic equipment, textiles and plastics for the prevention of fire. Over recent decades, concern has been raised regarding some heavily used BFRs, since the levels in the environment have been increasing. READ MORE
