21. Sources of dioxins and other POPs to the marine environment : Identification and apportionment using pattern analysis and receptor modeling
Abstract : In the studies underlying this thesis, various source tracing techniques were applied to environmental samples from the Baltic region. Comprehensive sampling and analysis of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in surface sediments in Swedish coastal and offshore areas resulted in a unique data set for this region. 22. On the combustion and photolytic degradation products of some brominated flame retardants
Abstract : Many modern products, especially electronic goods, are protected by brominated flame retardants (BFR). Some of the most common flame retardants are polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDE), tetrabromobisphenol-A (TBBP-A) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD). READ MORE

23. Semipermeable membrane devices as integrative tools for monitoring nonpolar aromatic compounds in air
Abstract : Air pollutants pose a high risk for humans, and the environment, and this pollution is one of the major environmental problems facing modern society. Active air sampling is the technique that has been traditionally used to monitor nonpolar aromatic air pollutants. READ MORE

24. How can data science contribute to a greener world? : an exploration featuring machine learning and data mining for environmental facilities and energy end users
Abstract : Human society has taken many measures to address environmental issues. For example, deploying wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) to alleviate water pollution and the shortage of usable water; using waste-to-energy (WtE) plants to recover energy from the waste and reduce its environmental impact. 25. Antimicrobials in sewage treatment plants : occurrence, fate and resistance
Abstract : The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified antibiotic resistance as a major threat to human health. The environment has been suggested to play an important role in the emergence of antibiotic resistant bacteria. The external environment can act as a source of resistance genes that could potentially be transferred into human pathogens. READ MORE
