1. Coherent Interactions in Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Crystals for Applications in Quantum Information Science
Abstract : This thesis describes investigations of the use of cryogenically cooled rare-earth-ion-doped crystals for quantum information processing and quantum optics. Several aspects of the coherent interaction between light and rare-earth ions in solids are addressed. Quantum information science has given physicists new views of quantum mechanics. READ MORE

2. Computational Models of Eye Movements in Reading : A Data-Driven Approach to the Eye-Mind Link
Abstract : This thesis investigates new methods for understanding eye movement behavior in reading based on the use of eye tracking corpora and data-driven modeling. Eye movement behavior is characterized by two basic, generally unconscious, decisions: where and when to move the eyes. READ MORE

3. Event-Driven Architectures for Heterogeneous Neuromorphic Computing Systems
Abstract : Mixed-signal neuromorphic processors have brain-like organization and device physics optimized for emulation of spiking neural networks (SNNs), and offer an energy-efficient alternative for implementing artificial intelligence in applications where deep learning based on conventional digital computing is unfeasible or unsustainable. However, efficient use of such hardware requires appropriate configuration of its inhomogeneous, analog neurosynaptic circuits, with methods for sparse, spike-timing-based information encoding and processing. 5. Nanofiltration at elevated temperatures: Influence of the combined effects of temperature, salts, pH and cleaning
Abstract : The influence of temperature, salts, pH, and various pre-treatments and cleaning on the nanofiltration (NF) performance of thin-film polyamide (PA) composite membranes has been investigated. The change in membrane performance was correlated to membrane swelling or/and electroviscous friction. READ MORE
