  1. 1. Perceived aspects of home, health and well-being among people in Sweden aged 67-70 years

    University dissertation from Lund University: Faculty of Medicine

    Author : Maya Kylén; [2018]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Younger older people; third age; housing; meaning of home; ageing in place;

    Abstract : Introduction: The fact that the majority of older people wish to remain and live independently in their current homes calls for a more comprehensive understanding of which aspects of the home support healthy ageing. Perceived aspects of home influence life satisfaction, perceived health, independence in daily activities and well-being among people aged 80 years and older. READ MORE

  2. 2. Lund Concept for De-airing of the Left Heart. Clinical Evaluation

    University dissertation from Lund University: Faculty of Medicine

    Author : Maya Landenhed Smith; [2017]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; open left heart surgery; de-airing; gaseous cerebral microemboli; transcranial Doppler sonography;

    Abstract : Background: Residual air accumulated air in the pulmonary veins constitutes a challenge to achievment of complete de-airing in open left heart surgery. To adress this problem, a conceptual method for de-airing was developed in Lund comprising bilateral opening of the pleurae to induce pulmonary collapse and a strategy with gradual pulmonary reperfusion and ventilation at weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). 3. 3. Studies on pericytes in health and disease

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics

    Author : Maya Hestnes Nisancioglu; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2010]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Pericytes are the perivascular mural cells of microvessels. They are intimately associated with endothelial cells and communicate with them via direct physical contact or through paracrine signaling pathways. These interactions are important for blood vessel maturation, remodeling, and maintenance. READ MORE

  4. 4. New Aspects of Mast Cell Progenitors in Health and Disease

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Maya Salomonsson; Jenny Hallgren Martinsson; Silvia Bulfone-Paus; [2019]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mast cells; Mast cell progenitor; Lung function; Bone marrow; Blood; Activation; Chemotactic receptors;

    Abstract : Mast cells are tissue-resident immune cells that are well known for their involvement in asthma and allergy. They originate in the fetal yolk sac, or in the bone marrow. From the bone marrow, they are released as immature progenitors that are transported via the blood circulation to the peripheral tissue, where they mature. READ MORE

  5. 5. On Numerical Solution Methods for Block-Structured Discrete Systems

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Petia Boyanova; Maya Neytcheva; Oleg Iliev; [2012]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Preconditioning techniques; Finite element method; Two-by-two block matrices; Optimal order methods; AMLI method; Cahn-Hilliard equation; Multiphase flow; Inexact Newton method; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : The development, analysis, and implementation of efficient methods to solve algebraic systems of equations are main research directions in the field of numerical simulation and are the focus of this thesis. Due to their lesser demands for computer resources, iterative solution methods are the choice to make, when very large scale simulations have to be performed. READ MORE
