1. Topics in the mean-field type approach to pedestrian crowd modeling and conventions
Abstract : This thesis consists of five appended papers, primarily addressingtopics in pedestrian crowd modeling and the formation of conventions. The first paper generalizes a pedestrian crowd model for competingsubcrowds to include nonlocal interactions and an arbitrary (butfinite) number of subcrowds. 2. Order in Strongly Correlated Quasi-One-Dimensional Systems : Solving Higher-Dimensional Systems Combining Matrix-Product-State Methods and Mean-Field Theory
Abstract : Since their discovery the understanding of unconventional superconductors (USCs) has posed a great challenge in condensed matter physics. One central problem, both of theory and experiment, lies in determining the microscopic origin of electron pairing in such systems. READ MORE

3. Polyelectrolyte - Surfactant Interactions in Dilute Suspensions. A Study Based on Monte Carlo simulations and Mean-Field Calcultations
Abstract : The complexation of macroions or charged micelles and oppositely charged polyelectrolytes was studied by the use of Monte-Carlo simulations and mean field calculations. The Monte-Carlo simulations were performed on a simple model system with the emphasis on the electrostatic interaction, (i) polyelectrolyte rigidity, (ii) polyelectrolyte linear charge density, (iii) surfactant tail length, and (iv) the polyelectrolyte concentration. 4. Correlated Electronic Structure of Materials : Development and Application of Dynamical Mean Field Theory
Abstract : This thesis is dedicated to the development, implementation and application of a combination of Density Functional Theory and Dynamical Mean Field Theory. The resulting program is shown through several examples to be a powerful and flexible tool for calculating the electronic structure of strongly correlated materials. READ MORE

5. Non-Linear Canonical Methods in Strongly Correlated Electron Systems
Abstract : In this thesis some new ideas to perform the analysis of Strongly Correlated Electronic Systems (SCES) are developed. In particular the use of non-linear canonical transformations is considered thoroughly. READ MORE
