  1. 1. Experimental studies of wind turbine wakes : power optimisation and meandering

    Author : Davide Medici; Henrik Alfredsson; Martin O.L. Lansen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wind energy; power optimisation; active control; yaw; vortex shedding; wake meandering; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : Wind tunnel studies of the wake behind model wind turbines with one, two and three blades have been made in order to get a better understanding of wake development as well as the possibility to predict the power output from downstream turbines working in the wake of an upstream one. Both two-component hot-wire anemometry and particle image velocimetry (PIV) have been used to map the flow field downstream as well as upstream the turbine. READ MORE

  2. 2. Field Measurements and Predictions of River Flow, Sediment Transport and Morphological Changes

    Author : Qiancheng Xie; Staffan Lundström; James Yang; J. Gunnar I. Hellström; Anders G. Andersson; Nils Ruther; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Alluvial river; Sediment transport; Morphological change; Meandering; Confluence-diffluence; River training; Field measurements; Numerical simulations; Physical model tests; Machine learning; Alluvial flod; Sedimenttransport; Morfologisk förändring; Slingrande; Konfluens-diffluens; Flodträning; Fältmätningar; Numeriska simuleringar; Fysiska modellprov; Maskininlärning; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : In an alluvial lowland river, sediment is transported in the form of suspended and bed loads. The fluvial process is the macroscopic view and long-term consequence of sediment movement. READ MORE

  3. 3. Superconducting kinetic inductance devices for nanoscale force sensing

    Author : August K. Roos; David B. Haviland; Hélène le Sueur; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; optomechanics; force sensing; atomic force microscopy; kinetic inductance; superconductivity; strain; meandering nanowires; optomekanik; kraftavkänning; atomkraftsmikroskopi; kinetisk induktans; supraledning; töjning; slingrande nanotrådar; Material and Nano Physics; Material- och nanofysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we present a force sensor for atomic force microscopy based on cavity optomechanical principles. We explain the function, design, fabrication and characterisation of the force sensor. The mechanical part of the force sensor consists of a cantilever with a very fine tip. READ MORE

  4. 4. From Art Galleries to Terrain Modelling --- A Meandering Path through Computational Geometry

    Author : Mikael Hammar; Data Vetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; system; numerisk analys; Datalogi; systems; control; numerical analysis; Approximation Algorithms; Computational Geometry; Online Algorithms; Art Gallery Problem; Linear Search; Traveling Salesman Problem; R-Tree; Delaunay Triangulation; Polygon Exploration; Computer science; Shortest Watchman Routes; kontroll; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : We give approximation and online algorithms as well as data structures for some well studied problems in computational geometry. The thesis is divided into three parts. In part one, we study problems related to guarding, exploring and searching geometric environments. READ MORE

  5. 5. Field Measurements and Numerical Simulations of Sediment Transport in a Tidal River

    Author : Qiancheng Xie; Staffan Lundström; J. Gunnar I. Hellström; Anders G. Andersson; Nils Ruther; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : In a coastal area, an alluvial lowland river has a free connection with the open sea and its flow is bidirectional. The river basin is often highly urbanized since it hosts valuable ecosystems and natural resources. Along with the growing population, climate change and human activities (e.g. READ MORE
