1. Experimental studies of wind turbine wakes : power optimisation and meandering
Abstract : Wind tunnel studies of the wake behind model wind turbines with one, two and three blades have been made in order to get a better understanding of wake development as well as the possibility to predict the power output from downstream turbines working in the wake of an upstream one. Both two-component hot-wire anemometry and particle image velocimetry (PIV) have been used to map the flow field downstream as well as upstream the turbine. READ MORE

2. Field Measurements and Predictions of River Flow, Sediment Transport and Morphological Changes
Abstract : In an alluvial lowland river, sediment is transported in the form of suspended and bed loads. The fluvial process is the macroscopic view and long-term consequence of sediment movement. READ MORE

3. Superconducting kinetic inductance devices for nanoscale force sensing
Abstract : In this thesis, we present a force sensor for atomic force microscopy based on cavity optomechanical principles. We explain the function, design, fabrication and characterisation of the force sensor. The mechanical part of the force sensor consists of a cantilever with a very fine tip. READ MORE

4. From Art Galleries to Terrain Modelling --- A Meandering Path through Computational Geometry
Abstract : We give approximation and online algorithms as well as data structures for some well studied problems in computational geometry. The thesis is divided into three parts. In part one, we study problems related to guarding, exploring and searching geometric environments. READ MORE

5. Field Measurements and Numerical Simulations of Sediment Transport in a Tidal River
Abstract : In a coastal area, an alluvial lowland river has a free connection with the open sea and its flow is bidirectional. The river basin is often highly urbanized since it hosts valuable ecosystems and natural resources. Along with the growing population, climate change and human activities (e.g. READ MORE
