16. Fluid dynamics and flow structures of wood fibres suspended in gas flows
Abstract : The flow of wood fibres suspended in gas plays a major role in the MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) production process. Development of machinery in this industry has traditionally been based on experience. Only recently has the use of numerical methods such as CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) become an important part of the development process. READ MORE

17. Respiratory inductive plethysmography (RIP) : calibration, breathing pattern analysis and external CO2 dead space measurement
Abstract : Respiratory inductive plethysmography (RIP) is an important tool for ventilatory monitoring in research studies because it has minimal influence on the spontaneous breathing pattern and because the rib cage and abdominal contributions to the breaths are measured. RIP measures changes in rib cage and abdominal cross-sectional areas which are translated into lung volume estimates via RIP calibration against e. READ MORE

18. Indicator dilution measurement of lung water considerations of the method
Abstract : Objective: Pulmonary oedema is life threatening. A method is needed for reliable measurement of lung water in man in order to clarify aetiology, pathophysiology, prognosis, and to evaluate treatments against pulmonary oedema. READ MORE

19. SAWING STRATEGIES FOR TROPICAL HARDWOOD SPECIES : Simulation studies based on industrial conditions of Mozambique
Abstract : The harvesting of Mozambique tropical hardwood species is considerable higher than the natural regrowth in the forest and the stock is decreasing drastically. Therefore, it is important to improve the material recovery when the wood is refined (i.e., in sawing and further refinement to products such as joineries, furniture etc. READ MORE

20. Hemodynamic and cardiometabolic studies in patients with distributive circulatory dysfunctions : with special reference to the effects of the beta-1-adrenoreceptor agonist prenalterol
Abstract : A total of 49 patients were studied, using invasive hemodynamic techniques with systemic arterial, pulmonary artery and right atrial pressure recordings together with thermodilution cardiac output determinations. Sixteen of the patients were also subjected to cardiometabolic studies, using measurement of coronary sinus blood flow by the continuous thermodilution technique and analyses of oxygen content and lactate concentration in the systemic and coronary circulation.
