  1. 21. The role of microstructure for crack propagation in cortical bone

    Author : Anna Gustafsson; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Crack deflection; Interface; Mechanical testing; Micro-CT; Osteon; Porosity; XFEM;

    Abstract : Healthy cortical bone tissue is both tough and strong and has a unique ability to resist fracture. One reason is the hierarchical structure of the tissue where toughening mechanisms at all length scales act to slow down or stop a propagating crack. READ MORE

  2. 22. Mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes and nanofibers

    Author : Henrik Jackman; Krister Svensson; Pavel Krakhmalev; Håkan Olin; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atomic force microscopy; bending; carbon nanotubes; deformation; scanning electron microscopy; Young s modulus; carbon nanofibers; mechanical properties; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have extraordinary electrical and mechanical properties, and many potential applications have been proposed, ranging from nanoscale devices to reinforcement of macroscopic structures. However, due to their small sizes, characterization of their mechanical properties and deformation behaviours are major challenges. READ MORE

  3. 23. Mechanical behaviour of a roller bearing steel : Strength differential effect, low temperature creep and propagation of short cracks

    Author : Irene Linares Arregui; Bo Alfredsson; Nils-Gunnar Ohlson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Fatigue cracks in bearings either initiate from the surface or from an inclusion below the rolling contact surface. Then, short cracks start to propagate. Short crack grow at considerably faster rates than long cracks subjected to a nominally equivalent stress intensity factor range. READ MORE

  4. 24. Metamodel-Based Multidisciplinary Design Optimization of Automotive Structures

    Author : Ann-Britt Ryberg; Larsgunnar Nilsson; Anirban Basudhar; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; multidisciplinary design optimization MDO ; metamodel; artificial neural network ANN ; support vector machine SVM ; sequential sampling; crashworthiness; automotive structure; spot weld optimization;

    Abstract : Multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) can be used in computer aided engineering (CAE) to efficiently improve and balance performance of automotive structures. However, large-scale MDO is not yet generally integrated within automotive product development due to several challenges, of which excessive computing times is the most important one. READ MORE

  5. 25. Creep, deformation and moisture redistribution during air convective wood drying and conditioning : air convective wood drying and conditioning

    Author : Tom Morén; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träteknik; Wood Technology;

    Abstract : Air convective wood drying is associated with a considerable risk for damage to the timber, especially checking and warping. This thesis contains an analysis of creep and deformation during wood drying related to stress development and susceptibility of checking. Also heat and mass transfer problems in the wood drying process are considered. READ MORE
