    Abstract : Early detection is vital to successfully treating breast cancer, and mammography screening is the most efficient and wide-spread method to reach this goal. Imaging low-contrast targets, while minimizing the radiation exposure to a large population is, however, a major challenge. READ MORE

  2. 2. Towards Natural Control of Artificial Limbs

    Author : Max Jair Ortiz Catalan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; epimysial electrodes; robotic prostheses; sensory feedback.; real-time and simultaneous prosthetic control; neurostimulation; pattern recognition; advanced prosthetic control; neural interfaces; artificial limbs; cuff electrodes; bone-anchored prostheses; osseointegration;

    Abstract : The use of implantable electrodes has been long thought as the solution for a more natural control of artificial limbs, as these offer access to long-term stable and physiologically appropriate sources of control, as well as the possibility to elicit appropriate sensory feedback via neurostimulation. Although these ideas have been explored since the 1960’s, the lack of a long-term stable human-machine interface has prevented the utilization of even the simplest implanted electrodes in clinically viable limb prostheses. Abstract : Today, the growing and aging population, and the rise of new global threats on human health puts an increasing demand on the healthcare system and calls for preventive actions. To make existing medical treatments more efficient and widely accessible and to prevent the emergence of new threats such as drug-resistant bacteria, improved diagnostic technologies are needed. 4. 4. The Bone Conduction Implant (BCI) - Preclinical Studies, Technical Design and a Clinical Evaluation

    Author : Hamidreza Taghavi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bone conduction implant; Amplitude modulation; Bone anchored hearing aid; Radio frequency power amplifier and inductive link; Long-term implantation.; Low-power systems; Implanted transducer;

    Abstract : The Bone Conduction Implant (BCI) system has been developed as an alternative to the percutaneous bone anchored hearing aid (BAHA) with the advantage that the skin is kept intact. The transducer is permanently implanted and attached to the skull via a flat surface contact to the temporal bone. READ MORE

    Abstract : Promising developments are currently ongoing worldwide in the field of neuroprosthetics and artificial limb control. It is now possible to chronically connect a robotic limb to bone, nerves and muscles of a human being, and use the signals sourced from these connections to enable movements in the artificial limb.
