  1. 1. Cellular regulation of heparan sulfate structure and function

    Author : Fariba Safaiyan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Heparan sulfate; structure; biosynthesis; sulfation; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Abstract : Heparan sulfate (HS) is a sulfated glycosaminoglycan found on cell surfaces and in the extracellular matrix as HS proteoglycans. HS is synthesized as a polymer of alternating glucuronic acid and N-acetylglucosamine units. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cystatin C functions in vitro and in vivo. Studies on target enzyme inhibition by cystatin C variants and cystatin C deficient mice

    Author : Katarina Håkansson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; amyloidosis; E.coli expression; Cysteine proteases; protease inhibitors; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Cystatin C variants with Arg8, Leu9 and/or Val10 replaced by Gly residues were produced by site-directed mutagenesis and E. coli expression. READ MORE

  3. 3. Discovery of Small Peptides and Peptidomimetics Targeting the Substance P 1-7 Binding Site : Focus on Design, Synthesis, Structure-Activity Relationships and Drug-Like Properties

    Author : Rebecca Fransson; Anja Sandström; John S Svendsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; substance P 1-7; peptidomimetics; structure-activity relationship; drug-like properties; phenylalanine; imidazole; MAP aryl amides; carbonylation; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : Biologically active peptides are important for many physiological functions in the human body and therefore serve as interesting starting points in drug discovery processes. In this work the neuropeptide substance P 1–7 (SP1–7, H-Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro-Gln-Gln-Phe-OH), which has been demonstrated to reduce neuropathic pain and attenuate opioid withdrawal symptoms in animal models, has been addressed in a medicinal chemistry program with the overall aim of transforming this bioactive peptide into more drug-like compounds. 4. 4. Collagen-binding integrin α2β1 activity in vivo and in vitro : Effects of platelet-derived growth factor-BB

    Author : Karina Åhlén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Integrin α2β1; PDGF-BB; fibroblast; interstitial fluid pressure; cytoskeletal interaction; phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase; [Ca2 ]i; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Abstract : The expression of integrins by two cell clones from a rat colon carcinoma was investigated. Cloned cells that gave rise to regressive tumors, but not cells that gave rise to progressive, lethal, tumors, adhered to interstitial collagens through the integrin α2β1, although both cell types expressed it. 5. 5. Enzymes involved in biosynthesis and degradation of heparin-related polysaccharides

    Author : Dagmar Sandbäck Pikas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; heparin; heparan sulphate; biosynthesis; N-deacetylase N-sulphotransferase; endoglycosidase; heparanase; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Abstract : Heparin and heparan sulphate (HS) are structurally related polysaccharides of the glycosaminoglycan type. As the glycan moiety of proteoglycans, they exist covalently linked to various core proteins. READ MORE
