11. High-temperature superconducting magnetometers for on-scalp MEG
Abstract : In the growing field of on-scalp magnetoencephalography (MEG), brain activity is studied by non-invasively mapping the magnetic fields generated by neuronal currents with sensors that are flexibly placed in close proximity to the subject's head. This thesis focuses on high-temperature superconducting magnetometers made from YBa2Cu3Ox-7 (YBCO), which enables a reduction in the sensor-to-room temperature standoff distance from roughly 2 cm (for conventional MEG systems) down to 1 mm. 12. Non-invasive imaging for improved cardiovascular diagnostics : Shear wave elastography, relative pressure estimation, and tomographic reconstruction
Abstract : Throughout the last century, medical imaging has come to revolutionise the way we diagnose disease, and is today an indispensable part of virtually any clinical practice. In cardiovascular care imaging is extensively utilised, and the development of novel techniques promises refined diagnostic abilities: ultrasound elastography allows for constitutive tissue assessment, 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) enables full-field flow mapping, and micro-Computed Tomography (CT) permits high-resolution imaging at pre-clinical level. 13. Nano-Engineered Contrast Agents : Toward Multimodal Imaging and Acoustophoresis
Abstract : Diagnostic ultrasound (US) is safer, quicker and cheaper than other diagnostic imaging modalities. Over the past two decades, the applications of US imaging has been widened due to the development of injectable, compressible and encapsulated microbubbles (MBs) that provide an opportunity to improve conventional echocardiographic imaging, blood flow assessment and molecular imaging. 14. Resource efficient automatic segmentation of medical images
Abstract : Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. In 2020, there were around 10 million cancer deaths and nearly 20 million new cancer cases in the world. Radiation therapy is essential in cancer treatments because half of the cancer patients receive radiation therapy at some point. READ MORE

15. Geometric Modeling of Thoracic Aortic Surface Morphology - Implications for Pathophysiology and Clinical Interventions
Abstract : Vascular disease risk factors such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia and old age are all results of modern-day lifestyle, and these diseases are getting more and more common. One treatment option for vascular diseases such as aneurysms and dissections is endovascular aortic repair introduced in the early 1990s. READ MORE
