  1. 1. A Segmented Silicon Strip Detector for Photon-Counting Spectral Computed Tomography

    Author : Cheng Xu; Hans Bornefalk; Mats Danielsson; Ami Altman; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; photon counting; spectral computed tomography; silicon strip detector; ASIC; energy resolution; cadmium telluride; charge sharing; Monte Carlo simulation; synchrotron;

    Abstract : Spectral computed tomography with energy-resolving detectors has a potential to improve the detectability of images and correspondingly reduce the radiation dose to patients by extracting and properly using the energy information in the broad x-ray spectrum. A silicon photon-counting detector has been developed for spectral CT and it has successfully solved the problem of high photon flux in clinical CT applications by adopting the segmented detector structure and operating the detector in edge-on geometry. 2. 2. Efficient Medical Volume Visualization : An Approach Based on Domain Knowledge

    Author : Claes Lundström; Anders Ynnerman; Hans Knutsson; Dirk Bartz; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Scientific Visualization; Medical Imaging; Computer Graphics; Volume Rendering; Transfer Function; Level-of-detail; Fuzzy Classification; Uncertainty Visualization; Virtual Autopsies; Medical engineering; Medicinsk teknik;

    Abstract : Direct Volume Rendering (DVR) is a visualization technique that has proved to be a very powerful tool in many scientific visualization applications. Diagnostic medical imaging is one domain where DVR could provide clear benefits in terms of unprecedented possibilities for analysis of complex cases and highly efficient work flow for certain routine examinations. Abstract : Within healthcare there is a market pull for biomedical devices that can rapidly perform laboratory processes, such as diagnostic testing, in a hand-held format. For this reason, biomedical devices must become smaller, more sophisticated, and easier to use for a reasonable cost. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fluorescence Guided Resection of Brain Tumors : Evaluation of a Hand-held Spectroscopic Probe

    Author : Johan Richter; Karin Wårdell; Jan Hillman; Peter Siesjö; Linköpings universitet; []

    Abstract : Malignant gliomas grow infiltrative in the brain and can therefore not be completely removed by neurosurgical means. However, for an optimized oncological treatment it has proven useful to resect as much as possible of tumor. The identification of the tumor in the marginal zone is difficult but crucial. READ MORE

    Abstract : Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an imaging modality that produces detailed images of the brain without using any ionizing radiation. From a structural MRI scan, it is possible to extract morphological properties of different brain regions, such as their volume and shape. READ MORE
