  1. 21. Peptidomimetic Enzyme Inhibitors : Targeting M. tuberculosis Ribonucleotide Reductase and Hepatitis C Virus NS3 Protease

    Author : Johanna Nurbo; Anders Hallberg; Anders Karlén; Anja Sandström; Per Arvidsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; enzyme inhibitor; peptidomimetics; structure-activity relationship; tuberculosis; ribonucleotide reductase; hepatitis C virus; NS3 protease; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the design and synthesis of inhibitors targeting Mycobacterium tuberculosis ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS3 protease; enzymes that have been identified as potential drug targets for the treatment of tuberculosis and hepatitis C, respectively. Small peptides have been recognized as inhibitors of these enzymes. READ MORE

  2. 22. Following the mevalonate pathway to bone heal alley

    Author : Björn Skoglund; Lars Nordsletten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Bone screws; coated materials; biocompatible; chemistry; diphosphonates; pharmacology; Equipment failure analysis methods; Femoral fractures; drug therapy; fracture fixation; instrumentation; Fracture fixation; fracture healing; drug effects; simvastatin; tibial fractures; physiopathologyial fractures; surgery; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Other veterinary medicine; Övrig veterinärmedicin;

    Abstract : The mevalonate pathway is an important biosynthetic pathway, found in all cells of virtually all known pro- as well as eukaryotic organisms. This thesis is an investigation into the use of two drugs, originally developed for different applications, but both affecting the mevalonate pathway, in to models of fracture repair. READ MORE

  3. 23. Design and Synthesis of Aspartic and Serine Protease Inhibitors : Targeting the BACE-1 and the HCV NS3 Protease

    Author : Fredrik Wångsell; Mats Larhed; Jari Yli-Kauhaluoma; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : This thesis describes work done to design and synthesize protease inhibitors, with the intention of developing therapeutic agents for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and the chronic liver condition caused by infection of the hepatitis C virus (HCV). AD is the most common form of dementia, and HCV infection is the primary reason for liver transplantation in industrialized countries. READ MORE

  4. 24. On the Design and Synthesis of Hepatitis C Virus NS3 Protease Inhibitors : From Tripeptides to Achiral Compounds

    Author : Pernilla Örtqvist; Anja Sandström; Mats Larhed; Anders Hallberg; Morten Grøtli; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Infection by the hepatitis C virus (HCV) leads to inflammation of the liver, i.e. hepatitis. The acute infection often progresses to a chronic phase during which the liver function is gradually impaired. READ MORE

  5. 25. Regiocontrol in the Heck-reaction and fast fluorous chemistry

    Author : Kristofer Olofsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical chemistry; palladium; Heck-koppling; regiokontroll; MAO-hämmare; ssao-hämmare; mikrovågskemi; Farmaceutisk kemi; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry; organisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Abstract : The palladium-catalysed Heck-reaction has been utilised in organic synthesis, where the introduction of aryl groups at the internal, β-carbon of different allylic substrates has been achieved with high regioselectivity.The β-stabilising effect of silicon enhances the regiocontrol in the internal arylation of allyltrimethylsilane, while a coordination between palladium and nitrogen induces very high regioselectivities in the arylation of N,N-dialkylallylamines and the Boc-protected allylamine, producing β-arylated arylethylamines, which are of interest for applications in medicinal chemistry.
