  1. 11. Cellular proteins binding to the HCV 5' and 3' UTRs

    Author : Karin Spångberg; Ingemar Ernberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Hepatitis C virus; RNA-binding proteins; mRNA stability; translation; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a worldwide health problem with more than 170 million people infected by the virus. About 80% become chronic carriers, which may result in hepatocellular carcinoma. The lack of an in vitro cell culture system that allows propagation of the virus has hampered the development of a vaccine or anti-viral drugs against HCV. READ MORE

  2. 12. Transcriptional activation by Sp1 and the adenovirus E1A transactivator protein

    Author : Anne-Christine Ström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : Transcription is a key step in the regulation of gene expression. Activation of transcriptionrequires that the RNA polymerase receive both, regulatory signals from transcription factors,and initiate transcription at the correct location in the genome, at the promoter. READ MORE

  3. 13. Characterisation of CtBP : A Co-Repressor of Transcription that Interacts with the Adenovirus E1A Protein

    Author : Anders Sundqvist; Anthony Wright; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; CtBP; HDAC; adenovirus; E1A; gene expression; repression; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : In this study, adenovirus E1A has been used to target and analyse the transcriptional function of the cellular C-terminal Binding Protein (CtBP).Transcription is a complex biochemical process that represents a major regulatory step in gene expression. READ MORE

  4. 14. Effects of polyomavirus T antigens on cellular signal transduction pathways

    Author : Karin Söderbärg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : The early viral proteins, the tumor (T) antigens, of mouse polyomavirus,stimulate cell growth by interaction with cellular growth regulating proteins.The viral interference with cellular growth regulation may, eventually, alsoresult in effects on cellular apoptosis (programmed cell death) mechanisms. 5. 15. Role of the 3'UTR in translation and stability of HCV and HPV mRNAs

    Author : Lisa Wiklund; Laszlo Szekely; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Hepatitis C virus; Human Papillomavirus; 3’ untranslated region; AU-rich sequence; mRNA stability; translation; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : Virus mRNAs can be divided into functional regions. The focus of this thesis will be to investigate the function of one of these regions, the 3’ untranslated region (UTR). The 3’UTR of HCV contains a U-rich element and the late 3’UTR of HPV-1 contains an AU-rich element. READ MORE
