  1. 16. Biomarker Discovery in Cutaneous Malignant Melanoma : A Study Based on Tissue Microarrays and Immunohistochemistry

    Author : Margrét Agnarsdóttir; Fredrik Ponten; Peter Naredi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antibody-based proteomics; automated analysis; biomarker; immunohistochemistry; malignant melanoma; survival; tissue microarray; Tumour biology; Tumörbiologi; Pathology; Patologi; Molecular medicine; Molekylär medicin; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap; Pathology; Patologi;

    Abstract : The incidence of cutaneous malignant melanoma has increased dramatically in Caucasians the last few decades, an increase that is partly explained by altered sun exposure habits. For the individual patient, with a localized disease, the tumor thickness of the excised lesion is the most important prognostic factor. READ MORE

  2. 17. Methotrexate and Risk of Cutaneous Melanoma

    Author : Sam Polesie; Göteborgs universitet; []

    Abstract : Methotrexate (MTX) is an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive drug commonly used to treat psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) is a common and dangerous type of skin cancer and in recent decades a noteworthy increase in incidence has been observed. READ MORE

  3. 18. Malignant melanoma-Risk factors and the CDKN2A mutation in relation to phenotypes and other cancers

    Author : Kari Nielsen; Lund Dermatologi och venereologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; clinically atypical nevus; nevus; CDKN2A; melanoma; risk factors; sunbed; UVR;

    Abstract : Background: Cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) is an increasingly common cancer in fair-skinned people. The purpose of this thesis was to study high-risk patients with multiple tumours including a CMM, high-risk families with the unique Swedish germline mutation in CDKN2A(113insArg), as well as study risk factors for CMM in women. Abstract : Immunotherapy with PD-1 inhibitors has transformed the treatment of met-astatic cutaneous mela- noma, and can lead to complete and durable responses in a proportion of patients. However, in around half of the patients, the treatment has little or no effect. READ MORE

  5. 20. Benefits and risks with digital dermoscopy and teledermoscopy

    Author : Johan Dahlén Gyllencreutz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; melanoma; non-melanoma skin cancer; teledermoscopy; dermoscopy; teledermatology; e-health;

    Abstract : The increasing incidence of malignant melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) makes it necessary to optimize the management of patients with suspicious skin lesions, from triaging, to establishing a diagnosis and planning treatment. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the use of teledermoscopy (TDS) as a way of achieving such an optimization, as well as to study safety aspects of digital dermoscopy and teledermoscopy while pointing out risks and pitfalls so that they can be avoided.
