  1. 16. Biophysical studies of membrane associated peptides

    Author : Jesper Lind; Astrid Gräslund; Lena Mäler; Christian Griesinger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR; spectroscopy; membrane interaction; bicelles; Chemistry; Kemi; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : A large part of the processes in living organisms involves proteins acting in a biological membrane. Biophysical studies on isolated model systems can give important understandings of the complicated biological mechanisms in the membrane. In this thesis peptide membrane interaction mechanisms are studied in several different systems. READ MORE

  2. 17. Probing and elucidating the dynamics of virus-membrane interaction via plasma membrane mimics

    Author : Konrad Thorsteinsson; Marta Bally; Hudson Pace; Gisa Gerold; Susan Daniel; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasma membrane; supported lipid bilayer; binding kinetics; equilibrium fluctuation analysis; TIRF; FRET; norovirus; HSV; SARS-CoV-2; histo-blood group antigens; ApoE; heparan sulfate; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : Virus infection is initiated by the attachment of a virion to a susceptible cell’s plasma membrane, in a highly dynamic and well-orchestrated process that encompasses various steps and engages numerous viral and cellular factors. These dynamic steps may include initial non-specific binding to ubiquitous cell-membrane ligands, diffusion across the membrane to a suitable entry site and virus engagement with various receptors and co-receptors on the cell surface. 3. 18. Membrane interactions of glycosyltransferases

    Author : Jobst Liebau; Lena Mäler; Christofer Lendel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lipid; bicelle; glycosyltransferase; NMR; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : Many important biological processes occur near or in membranes. The role of membranes is not merely confined to compartmentalization, they also form the matrix for membrane associated proteins and are of functional importance. Membrane associated proteins on the other hand require specific membrane properties for proper function. READ MORE

  4. 19. Label free analysis and spatial distribution of molecular lipids in brain tissue and cells using mass spectrometry imaging

    Author : Amir Saeid Mohammadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mass Spectrometry Imaging; Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry Imaging; Matrix Assisted Laser desorption Ionization; Lipids; Brain tissue;

    Abstract : Lipids are important inherent components in brain and cell membranes, which play significant biological roles in cell function. Identification and localization of specific biomolecules such as peptides and lipids within cellular membranes is currently a major challenge in metabolomics and biological studies. READ MORE

  5. 20. Structure and lipid interactions of membrane-associated glycosyltransferases : Cationic patches and anionic lipids regulate biomembrane binding of both GT-A and GT-B enzymes

    Author : Scarlett Szpryngiel; Lena Mäler; Marcelo Guerins; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glycosyltransferase; monotopic membrane proteins; galactolipids; NMR; chitin synthase; DGD2; LPS; WaaG; MIT domain; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns work on structure and membrane interactions of enzymes involved in lipid synthesis, biomembrane and cell wall regulation and cell defense processes. These proteins, known as glycosyltransferases (GTs), are involved in the transfer of sugar moieties from nucleotide sugars to lipids or chitin polymers. READ MORE
