  1. 1. The Entheses of the Medial Meniscns and Ligaments of the Knee Joint : Descriptive and Experimental Studies

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköpings universitet

    Author : Jizong Gao; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [1997]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; knee joint; meniscus; ligaments; insertion; enthesis; quantitative morphology; fibrocartilage; cement line; collagens; proteoglycans; nerve fibres; tensile strength; failure mode; transection; refixation; repair; healing; osteoarthrosis; histology; immunohistochemistry; biomechanics; rabbit model; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Meniscal injuries are common in sports. Surgical removal of the meniscus to relieve symptoms is associated with a high risk for late knee joint osteoarthrosis and pain. Meniscal repair or replacement has therefore been advocated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Clinical and radiographic outcome of meniscectomy and meniscus repair in the stable knee

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköpings universitet

    Author : Peter Rockborn; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Arthroscopy; Meniscectomy; Meniscus Repair; Follow-up; Arthrosis; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Increasing knowledge about the function of the meniscus and arthroscopy have made meniscus surgery more conservative. Arthroscopy was developed during the 70's and enabled the surgeon to select the most appropriate and tissue conserving therapy for a meniscus lesion. READ MORE

  3. 3. Meniscectomy, meniscal repair, and prosthetic substitution : Clinical and experimental investigations

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköpings universitet

    Author : Karola Messner; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [1992]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : This study comprising 7 papers is concerned with different treatment of meniscal injuries. The aim was to analyse today's clinical methods and the possibility for prosthetic substitution in the future. Open peripheral meniscal repair was compared with partial arthroscopic meniscectomy in a 7·year follow-up evaluation of 130 patients. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanics and Growth of Articular Cartilage Around a Localized Metal Implant

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Krishnagoud Manda; KTH.; [2013]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; finite element analysis; articular cartilage defects; growth; knee; focal knee resurfacing; metal implant; poroelastic; porohyperelastic; biphasic;

    Abstract : Articular cartilage is a specialized connective soft tissue that resides on the ends of long-bones, and transfers the load smoothly between the bones in diarthrodial joints by providing almost frictionless, wear resistant sliding surfaces during joint articulation. Focal chondral or osteochondral defects in articular cartilage are common and show limited capacity for biological repair. READ MORE

  5. 5. Morphological and molecular changes in developing guinea pig osteoarthritis

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Surgical Science

    Author : Harald Brismar; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Osteoarthritis (OA)-an unspecific term for late joint destruction-is one of the most common causes of pain and disability in elderly. OA is characterized by destruction of articular cartilage and insufficient tissue repair. Hartley guinea pigs develop a spontaneous knee arthropathy similar to primary human knee OA. READ MORE
