2. Atmospheric corrosion of zinc-aluminum and copper-based alloys in chloride-rich environments : Microstructure, corrosion initiation, patina evolution and metal release
Abstract : Fundamental understanding of atmospheric corrosion mechanisms requires an in-depth understanding on the dynamic interaction between corrosive constituents and metal/alloy surfaces. This doctoral study comprises field and laboratory investigations that assess atmospheric corrosion and metal release processes for two different groups of alloys exposed in chloride-rich environments. 3. Surface reactions on metallic nanoparticles : Ligand adsorption, metal release, and reactive oxygen species generation
Abstract : Humans are exposed daily to metallic nanoparticles (Me NPs) from multiple sources which can have both natural and anthropogenic origins. Such exposures take place via different routes including inhalation and skin contact and may result in adverse health effects. READ MORE

4. Nanocomposite films for corrosion protection
Abstract : This thesis describes technical and scientific aspects of new types of composite films/coatings for corrosion protection of carbon steel, composite films with nanometer thickness consisting of mussel adhesive protein (Mefp‐1) and ceria nanoparticles, and polymeric composite coatings with micrometre thickness consisting of conducting polymer and ceria nanoparticles in a UV‐curing polyester acrylate (PEA) resin. The influence of microstructure on corrosion behaviour was studied for a Fe‐Cr‐V‐N alloy containing micro‐sized nitrides with different chemical composition spread in martensitic alloy matrix. 5. Mechanistic Approach to Corrosion of Zirconium by Water - A First Principle Study
Abstract : Zirconium and zirconium oxides are of major technological importance. There are broad applications for these materials, from fuel cell electrolyte to semiconductors and in hip-implants. In nuclear power plants, zirconium alloys are widely used as cladding material to contain the fission fuel in the reactor cores. READ MORE
