  1. 1. Effect of boron and hydrogen on microstructure and mechanical properties of cast Ti-6Al-4V

    Author : Raghuveer Gaddam; Magnus Hörnqvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Titanium alloy; Metallography; Fractography; Castings; Low cycle fatigue; Hydrogen; Boron; Materialteknik; Engineering Materials;

    Abstract : Titanium and its alloys are widely used in applications ranging from aeroengines and offshore equipment to biomedical implants and sporting goods, owing to their high ratio of strength to density, excellent corrosion resistance, and biomedical compatibility. Among the titanium alloys used in aerospace, Ti-6Al-4V (an α+β alloy) is the most widely used, in applications in which the temperature may reach 350°C, at which point it retains good fatigue and fracture properties as well as moderate tensile strength and ductility. 2. 2. Microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo and Ti-6Al-4V : influence of H, O and B

    Author : Raghuveer Gaddam; Barbara Shollock; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Titanium alloys; Hydrogen; Oxygen; Boron; Tensile; Compression; Fatigue; Metallography; Fractography; Materialteknik; Engineering Materials;

    Abstract : Titanium and its alloys are used in a wide range of applications from aerospace, marine, biomedical implants and consumer goods, due to their superior specific strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility. In aerospace applications, these alloys are predominately used as components in the aero/rocket engines because of their high strength-to-density ratio compared to other metallic materials. 3. 3. Study and empirical modelling of recrystallisation annealing of martensitic chromium steel strip by means of EBSD

    Author : Sorin Ionescu-Gabor; KTH; []
    Keywords : EBSD; Etching; Metallography; Cold Rolling; Recrystallisation annealing;

    Abstract : Recrystallisation annealing, a repeated heat treatment between different stages of cold rolling of martensitic chromium steel strip, is successful when neither high rolling forces nor wear of the working rolls occur during the subsequent cold rolling. Mechanical properties as tensile strength, yield, elongation or hardness have been, by tradition, the criteria that described the quality of the annealing process. READ MORE

  4. 4. Evolution of Microstructure in Two Austenitic Alloys at High Temperatures

    Author : Jenny M Erneman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; N ; Thermo-Calc; Nb C; gamma prime; DICTRA; APFIM; quantitative metallography; AISI 347; Alloy 800; energy filtered TEM; sigma phase;

    Abstract : A niobium stabilised AISI 347 austenitic stainless steel was investigated after static ageing and creep deformation at temperatures between 500°C and 800°C for times up to 88 000 h. Coarse and fine NbX precipitates and also s-phase precipitates were formed in the temperature range 500-700°C. READ MORE

  5. 5. Precipitation Reactions at High Temperatures in 9-12% Chromium Steels

    Author : Mats Hättestrand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermo-dynamical simulations; creep resistant; 9-12% chromium steel; energy filtered TEM; precipitates; atom probe field ion microscopy; quantitative metallography;

    Abstract : This thesis reports on quantitative investigations of microstructural changes, mainly precipitation reactions, occurring during heat treatment, ageing and creep of 9-12% chromium steels. Several alloys with varying composition have been investigated. READ MORE
