  1. 16. On the Nucleation and Inoculation of Metals

    Author : Lena Magnusson; Hasse Fredriksson; Peter Schumacher; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Solidification; nucleation; inoculation; undercooling; interface energy; refractory metals; latent heat; inclusions; nodular cast iron; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Latent heat during recalesence and nucleation and post-recalesence temperature was analysed for refractory metals. An effect on latent heat was found by alloying the pure elements with other refractories. Latent heat was found to be 15-65% of tabulated values. Interface energy was evaluated from undercooling experiments. READ MORE

  4. 19. Predictive Modelling of Heavy Metals in Urban Lakes

    Author : Martin Lindström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Predictive modelling; heavy metals; lakes; urban influences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Sedimentology; sedimentologi;

    Abstract : Heavy metals are well-known environmental pollutants. In this thesis predictive models for heavy metals in urban lakes are discussed and new models presented. The base of predictive modelling is empirical data from field investigations of many ecosystems covering a wide range of ecosystem characteristics. READ MORE

  5. 20. Interactions between calcium and heavy metals in Norway spruce : Accumulation and binding of metals in wood and bark

    Author : Ann Helén Österås; Maria Greger; Lena Kautsky; Douglas L. Godbold; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Waste products from the forest industry are to be spread in forests in Sweden to counteract nutrient depletion due to whole tree harvesting. This may increase the bioavailability of calcium (Ca) and heavy metals, such as cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) in forest soils. READ MORE
