  1. 21. Mutations and molecular signatures in human melanoma

    Author : Braslav Jovanovic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cutaneous melanoma is a disease which results from a complex mixture of various extrinsic and intrinsic factors, with some major players still unknown. Although primary tumors are highly curable with surgical excision, particularly those which are non-ulcerated and have a thickness of less than 1 mm, poor survival rates are observed in advanced disease. 2. 22. Uveal melanoma : cytogenetics, molecular biology and tumor immunology

    Author : Charlotta All-Ericsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Uveal melanoma; prognostic markers; treatment; CGH; chromosomal aberrations; HLA; IHC; Western blotting; IGF-1R; c-kit; STT571;

    Abstract : Uveal melanoma is the most common primary intraocular malignancy. The metastatic spread is hematogenous and exclusively to the liver. Although eye-sparing treatments are used more frequently the tumor-related mortality in uveal melanoma is still 30-50%. Only 2% of the patients have detectable metastases at the time of diagnosis. 3. 23. Activating proto-oncogene mutations in human cutaneous melanoma

    Author : Katarina Omholt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cutaneous melanoma arises from melanocytes located in the basal layer of the epidermis. The disease is known to progress through well-defined steps: 1) common nevus; 2) dysplastic nevus; 3) radial growth phase (RGP) primary melanoma; 4) vertical growth phase (VGP) primary melanoma; and 5) metastatic melanoma. 4. 24. Immunological alterations, therapies with immune check-point inhibitors and beyond in patients with metastatic melanoma

    Author : Maria Wolodarski; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In the last decade the treatment of metastatic melanoma (MM) has been revolutionized and changed the life of many patients, offering prolonged survival and improved symptom control. These treatment strategies have also changed the way we treat malignancies in general and the treatment of melanoma has been the role model for new treatment strategies. READ MORE

  5. 25. Experimental studies on ErbB targeted therapy in malignant melanoma

    Author : Emelie Severinsson; Thomas Walz; Anna-Lotta Hallbeck; Olle Stål; Olle Larsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Malignant melanoma has one of the fastest increasing incidences among the different types of cancer in the Western world. This raise can partly be ascribed to the change in sun habits that has taken place during the last decades, since the major external risk factor for melanoma is exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
