  1. 1. On the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-Al alloys

    Author : Haiping Cao; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Mg-AI; microstructure; mechanical properties; divorced degree; modeling; mould constraint; segregation band; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The microstructural features and the mechanical properties of binary Mg-Al alloys have been investigated by using a gradient solidification technique. Homogeneous and nearly defect-free samples were produced under well controlled cooling conditions, through which the microstructural characteristics as well as the relationships between microstructure and mechanical properties in Mg-AI alloys were precisely defined. Author : Mohsen Esmaily; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; galvanic corrosion; Al content; microstructure; intermetallic particles; atmospheric corrosion; Al alloy 6xxx; casting; Mg-Al alloys; FSW P; BFSW.; Mg alloys-based MMCs;

    Abstract : Magnesium-aluminum (Mg-Al) alloys, Mg-based metal matrix composites (MMCs) and Al alloys are among the best material candidates for future lightweight solutions. However, the use of these materials is limited by a number of issues, including the ability to resist corrosion. READ MORE

  4. 4. Carbon Dioxide: The Unknown Factor in the Atmospheric Corrosion of Light Metals. A Laboratory Study

    Author : Daniel Bengtsson Blücher; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SO2; temperature; CO2; atmospheric corrosion; magnesium; NO2; aluminum alloys; NaCl; O3; Mg-Al alloys;

    Abstract : The atmospheric corrosion of Al and Mg-Al alloys was investigated using controlled air in the laboratory. The effects of CO2, temperature, NaCl, relative humidity, SO2, NO2 and O3 on corrosion rate and corrosion product composition were examined. READ MORE

  5. 5. The effect of microstructure and temperature on the atmospheric corrosion of Mg-Al alloys

    Author : Mohsen Esmaily; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmospheric corrosion; microstructure; temperature; corrosion product; magnesium;

    Abstract : The NaCl-induced atmospheric corrosion behavior of the Mg-Al alloy AM50 produced by rheo-casting (RC) and high pressure die casting (HPDC) techniques was studied in the laboratory. The exposures were performed at 95% RH in the absence and presence of 400 ppm CO2 at 22, 4 and -4ºC. In parallel, 99.97%Mg was investigated as reference. READ MORE
