  1. 1. Characteristics of cast magnesium alloys : microstructures, defects and mechanical properties

    Author : Haiping Cao; Anders Jarfors; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Mg alloys; microstructure; mechanical properties; defects; modelling; segregation bands; hot tear; mould constraint; semi-solid casting.; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Magnesium is the lightest of all structural metals. As such, and combined  with good mechanical and physical properties, it forms the basis for commercial alloys that have found successful use in a wide variety of applications. READ MORE

  2. 2. X-ray and neutron μCT of biomedical samples: from image acquisition to quantification

    Author : Niccoló Peruzzi; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; x-ray imaging; neutron imaging; μCT; synchrotron radiation; x-ray phase-contrast; nanoholotomography; x-ray elemental mapping; biomedical applications; virtual histology; biodegradable implants; Mg-alloys; enteric nervous system; peripheral neuropathy; gastroenteric dysmotility; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Peruzzi;

    Abstract : Even though the validity of x-ray computed tomography in the analysis of biomedical samples is nowadays undisputed, the more recent imaging techniques and more advanced instruments (such as synchrotrons) are still relatively unknown to many medical doctors that could benefit from them.The doctoral work presented in this thesis joins a collective effort from the imaging community to demonstrate potential applications of advanced x-ray and neutron imaging methods to preclinical medical research, with the hope of contributing to reach a “critical mass” in the medical community and in the public opinion as well. 3. 3. Properties of Al-Mg Alloys and Vacancies in Al: a First-Principles Investigation

    Author : Karin M. Carling; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Phase transformations such as precipitation are used to control the strength of many technologically important aluminum alloys. In precipitation hardening, the material is heat treated and aged to produce precipitates, small particles of a different phase, in the matrix. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Role of Microstructure in the Atmospheric Corrosion of Selected Light Alloys and Composites

    Author : Mohsen Esmaily; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; galvanic corrosion; Al content; microstructure; intermetallic particles; atmospheric corrosion; Al alloy 6xxx; casting; Mg-Al alloys; FSW P; BFSW.; Mg alloys-based MMCs;

    Abstract : Magnesium-aluminum (Mg-Al) alloys, Mg-based metal matrix composites (MMCs) and Al alloys are among the best material candidates for future lightweight solutions. However, the use of these materials is limited by a number of issues, including the ability to resist corrosion. READ MORE

  5. 5. As-cast AZ91D Magnesium Alloy Properties- Effect of Microstructure and Temperature

    Author : Hoda Dini; Anders Jarfors; Nils-Eric Andersson; Uta Klement; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnesium alloys; As-cast; AZ91D; Mechanical properties; Microstructural scale effect; Physical modelling;

    Abstract : Magnesium and magnesium alloys are used in a wide variety of structural applications including automotive, aerospace, hand tools and electronic industries thanks to their light weight, high specific strength, adequate corrosion resistance and good castability. Al and Zn are the primary alloying elements in commercial Mg alloys and commonly used in automotive industries. READ MORE
