  1. 1. Calculation of scatter in cone beam CT : Steps towards a virtual tomograph

    Author : Alexandr Malusek; Michael Sandborg; Gudrun Alm Carlsson; Michael Ljungberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Abstract : Scattered photons—shortly scatter—are generated by interaction processes when photon beams interact with matter. In diagnostic radiology, they deteriorate image quality since they add an undesirable signal that lowers the contrast in projection radiography and causes cupping and streak artefacts in computed tomography (CT). 2. 2. FROM SERUM TO TISSUE: GALECTIN-BINDING GLYCOFORMS OF SERUM GLYCOPROTEINS AS FUNCTIONAL BIOMARKERS

    Author : Michael Carlsson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Galectin; glycoproteins; intracellular sorting; biomarkers;

    Abstract : Galectins are small soluble proteins defined by a conserved sequence motif that forms a defining β-galactoside binding site shared among galectins; adjacent binding sites give each galectin a unique fine specificity for a specific subset of galactose containing glycans. A wealth of data now suggests important roles of galectins in both cancer and inflammation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Phylogeography of the Adder, Vipera berus

    Author : Martin Carlsson; Håkan Tegelström; Michael Douglas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Phylogeography; Vipera; adders; mtDNA; microsatellites; RAPDs; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Genetics; genetik;

    Abstract : The phylogeography of a wide ranging temperate species, the adder, Vipera berus, was investigated using several genetic tools, with special emphasis on the post-glacial colonisation pattern of Fennoscandia. The area was colonised from two directions by adder populations representing different glacial refugia. READ MORE

  4. 4. Radioluminescence : A simple model for fluorescent layers - analysis and applications

    Author : Jan Lindström; Åsa Carlsson Tedgren; Eva Lund; Michael Sandborg; Ioannis Kandarakis; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : A phosphor or scintillator is a material that will emit visible light when struck by ionising radiation. In the early days of diagnostic radiology, it was discovered that the radiation dose needed to get an image on a film, could be greatly reduced by inserting a fluorescent layer of a phosphor in direct contact with the film. Abstract : This practical artistic research project (Documented Artistic Research Project (Doctoral Thesis)) explores how the performance of acoustic sound in dialogue with site can create a sonic scenography, experienced by an audience from within the sonic structures. Six art projects were carried out in the context of this research.
