  1. 1. Modeling the global fate and transport of perfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS)

    Author : James M. Armitage; Ian T. Cousins; Michael S. McLachlan; David Ellis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; perfluoroalkylated substances; global-scale; fate and transport; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Perfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS) are persistent contaminants that are widely distributed in the global environment. Despite the fact that these chemicals have been manufactured and used for over 50 years, there has been little scientific and regulatory interest until very recently. READ MORE

  2. 2. Sources, emissions, and occurrence of chlorinated paraffins in Stockholm, Sweden

    Author : Ulrika E. Fridén; Urs Berger; Michael S. McLachlan; Jacob de Boer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chlorinated paraffins; CPs; polychlorinated n-alkanes; PCAs; Air; Dust; Analysis; Exposure; Emissions; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) are ubiquitous environmental contaminants. They fulfill all of the criteria (persistent, toxic, and subject to long-range transport) for persistent organic pollutants (POPs) according to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). READ MORE

  3. 3. Fate of perfluoroalkyl acids in the aquatic environment with a focus on mass balance studies

    Author : Marko Filipovic; Urs Berger; Michael McLachlan; Crispin Halsall; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PFAA; PFOS; AFFF; tap water; ground water; WWTP; mass balance; atmospheric deposition; rivers; Baltic Sea; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are man-made chemicals. Their unique properties make them beneficial for a wide range of industrial and consumer product applications, such as in aqueous film forming foam (AFFF), durable water repellent clothing, hydraulic oils and food packaging materials. 4. 4. Fish bile in environmental analysis

    Author : Margaretha Adolfsson-Erici; Michael McLachlan; Lillemor Asplund; Freek Ariese; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fish bile estrogenic triclosan rubber additives pulp and paper; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : This work explores the usefulness of fish bile analysis in combination with biomarkers for identifying and evaluating new environmental contaminants in the aquatic environment. It illustrates how bile analysis can be used together with biomarkers to assess the causes of estrogenic effects, to identify chemicals in the aquatic environment that are taken up by fish, and to monitor environmental exposure.
