11. Analysing the effects of governmental control policies in transport chains using micro-level simulation
Abstract : Increasing freight transportation volumes continue to increase problems related to human health, congestion on the transport infrastructure, noise, climate changes, etc. Governments often want to minimize these negative effects, and this wish is expressed in societal goals, e.g., to reach environmental targets. 12. Computer-based modeling and simulation in the analysis of cardiac arrhythmias and cardiac pacing
Abstract : Most systems for ECG analysis deal with QRS classification and arrhythmia detection but do not address the problem of finding the underlying mechanism responsible for the manifest arrhythmia. Although it is possible to distinguish among different arrhythmogenic mechanisms on the cellular level, it is far more difficult in the clinic based on ECG recordings. READ MORE

13. Reactions with radioactive beams and development of scintillator-based detector systems
Abstract : An experiment on elastic scattering of 15 C on 208 Pb at an energy of 65 MeVwas performed at ISOLDE (CERN) exploiting the advantages of the ISOL te-chinique. The measurement showed in increase of the reaction cross section to3035 mb with respect to 12 C, confirming the results obtained at 80 MeV/u. READ MORE

14. Droplet growth in atmospheric turbulence : A direct numerical simulation study
Abstract : This Ph.D. thesis examines the challenging problem of how turbulence affects the growth of cloud droplets in warm clouds. Droplets grow by either condensation or collision. READ MORE

15. On the Use of Simulation and Optimization for the Analysis and Planning of Prehospital Stroke Care
Abstract : Immediate treatment is of extreme importance for stroke patients. However, providing fast enough treatment for stroke patients is far from trivial, mainly due to logistical challenges and difficulties in diagnosing the correct stroke type. READ MORE
