  2. 2. Microsimulation modelling of prostate cancer screening in Sweden

    Author : Andreas Karlsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Evidence-based health policy may require modelling of different interventions. The choice of model complexity is a trade-off, where simpler models may be easier to describe and calibrate, while complex models may better represent the disease dynamics and lead to more valid predictions. 3. 3. Local impacts of large investments

    Author : Urban Lindgren; Einar Holm; Claes-Göran Alvstam; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Pulp and paper industry; internationalisation; investments; local socio-economic impacts; microsimulation;

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis is to investigate local impacts of large investments. This problem has been approached from three directions and, therefore, the study consists of three themes, namely: the changing spatial patterns of corporate activities, the short-term local economic impacts of investments, and the long-term socio-economic impacts of investments on the local municipality. Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to explore the quantitative potential to reduce energy requirements and CO2 emissions through changed patterns of consumption, given unchanged levels of consumption expenditure. The thesis question is analysed using a systems analysis approach which in this case means that life cycle assessment data on energy requirements and CO2 emissions related to household consumption are combined with a financial and behavioural analysis to make sure that the budget constraint is kept and that both the first and second order effects of adopting a green consumption pattern are analysed. Abstract : There has recently been a renewed interest in planning for pedestrian traffic, primarily in connection to public transport interchange stations, since these are important for public transport to constitute an attractive alternative to car usage. This thesis concerns microscopic simulation of pedestrian traffic, which is a promising tool for analyzing and predicting the traffic situation in a given pedestrian facility; particularly powerful when the traffic is congested.
