  1. 6. Distribution and Effects of NO and CO in the Human Upper Respiratory Tract

    Author : Jens Andersson; Helsingborg Kliniska Vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; transplantation; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; serologi; Immunologi; serology; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen; Immunology; sinus; upper respiratory tract infection; nose; nitric oxide; neutrophil migration; middle ear; hemin; flow cytometry; allergy; carbon monoxide;

    Abstract : Mucosal inflammation and airway hyperreactivity are regulated by hundreds of different mediators. The recent discovery of gaseous mediators, produced and active within the airways, opens new possibilities for identification of therapeutic targets and ways to monitor airway inflammation. 2. 7. Clinical Electrocochleography in Menière´s disease

    Author : Kornel Sass; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intrathoracic pressure; perilymphatic fistula; pressure exposure; endolymphatic hydrops; Menière´s disease; reproducibility; specificity; sensitivity; rarefaction click; condensation click; electrocochleography; summating potential; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Abstract : Electrocochleography (ECoG) is an objective method to evaluate cochlear electrophysiology. The recordings are considered to reflect the mechano-electric processes of the cochlea, and can indicate the presence of suspected endolymphatic hydrops. READ MORE

  3. 8. Two New Non-invasive Treatment Methods for Otitis Media with Effusion in Children and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea in Adults

    Author : Armin Bidarian-Moniri; Göteborgs universitet; []

    Abstract : Otitis media with effusion (OME) in children and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) in adults are common conditions in medicine. Several surgical and non-surgical methods have been suggested for treatment of these diseases. READ MORE

  4. 9. Hair cell and organ of corti responses to normal and intense acoustic stimulation

    Author : Anders Fridberger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Cochlea; outer hair cells; calcium; pressure changes; micromechanics; noise-induced hearing loss; fluorescent indicators; laser interferometry; temporal bone preparation; guinea pig;

    Abstract : The principal aims of the studies described in this thesis were to develop an in vitro model for studying acoustic overstimulation at the cellular level, to define the electrical and mechanical response characteristics of the perfused temporal bone preparation, and to investigate the effects of intense sound stimulation on the calcium levels of the hair cells in the intact hearing organ. In the in vitro model for acoustic overstimulation, isolated cochlear outer hair cells were subjected to a pressure jet emanating from a glass micropipette aimed at the cell body. READ MORE

  5. 10. Long-term follow-up after otitis media in childhood

    Author : Marie Ryding; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; hörsel- och talorganen; audiologi; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; tympanic membrane pathology.; otitis media with effusion; hearing loss; follow-up; acute otitis media; Eustachian tube;

    Abstract : Objective: Most preschool children have suffered from at least one episode of acute otitis media (AOM) and/or secretory otitis media (SOM). Some children have frequent AOM episodes and/or prolonged and recurrent episodes of secretory otitis media (SOM). The long-term out-come and sequelae are not fully clarified. READ MORE
