  1. 1. Fish foraging under visual constraints

    Author : Mikael Jönsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; planktivore.; piscivore; brownification; visual foraging; Turbidity;

    Abstract : Visual conditions are changing in several different ways. Some lakes are getting turbid due to eutrophication or erosion while others are getting browner due to brownification. These two types of visual degradation results in completely different optical properties of lakes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fundamental Experimental and Numerical Investigation Focusing on the Initial Stage of a Top-Blown Converter Process

    Author : Mikael Ersson; Pär Jönsson; Stein-Tore Johanssen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; numerical modeling; top-blown converter; BOF; CFD; Thermodynamics; slag; dynamic simulations; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis work is to increase the knowledge of phenomena taking place during the initial stage in a top blown converter. The work has been done in a few steps resulting in four different supplements. Water model experiments have been carried out using particle image velocimetry (PIV) technology. READ MORE

  3. 3. An interactive flowcharting technique for communicating and realizing algorithms

    Author : Arne Jönsson; Mikael Patel; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the design, specification, implementation and experience of the use of an interactive flowcharting technique for communicating and realizing algorithms. Our goals are: 1) to help novices to understand computers, by giving them a framework for organizing algorithms, and 2) to support development of software produced by groups of people over an extended period of time. 4. 4. Study of pyrolysis and gasification of biomass from the self-organization perspective

    Author : Aliaksandr Alevanau; Ersson Mikael; Weihong Yang; Pär Jönsson; Sylwester Kalisz; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pyrolisys; pellets; hydrogen; gasification; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the analysis of kinetics of i) low-temperature pyrolysis of gaseous hydrocarbons, ii) high-temperature steam gasification of char of wood pellets (>700oC), iii) high temperature pyrolysis of straw pellets in an atmosphere of argon and steam, and iv) high temperature pyrolysis of slices of transversally cut wooden sticks. The results of the kinetic measurements in the high-temperature cases are approximated using a least-square based optimization software, which was specially developed to analyse kinetics prone for deviation from the Arrhenius law. 5. 5. A Study of the Swirling Flow Pattern when Using TurboSwirl in the Casting Process

    Author : Haitong Bai; Mikael Ersson; Pär Jönsson; Yogeshwar Sahai; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flow pattern; swirling flow; TurboSwirl; CFD; turbulence models; water model; flödesmönster; roterandeflöde; TurboSwirl; CFD; turbulensmodeller; vattenmodell; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Abstract : The use of a swirling flow can provide a more uniform velocity distribution and a calmer filling condition according to previous studies of both ingot and continuous casting processes of steel. However, the existing swirling flow generation methods developed in last decades all have some limitations. READ MORE
