1. Integrated decision making in civil engineering, based on multi-criteria assessment and buildings’ certification
Abstract : Significant investments are being made in the construction sector in order to raise the quality of the buildings and make them more sustainable and energy-efficient. The key aspect of these investments should be the purposeful optimization of the possible renovation and construction measures. READ MORE

2. Spectroscopic Studies of Isomers Produced in Relativistic Projectile Fragmentation and In-Flight Fission
Abstract : This thesis is based on a number of experiments performed at the FRagment Separator (FRS) at the Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung mbH (GSI) in Darmstadt, Germany, in which heavy-ion reactions at relativistic energies have been used to produce nuclei far from stability. In April 1999 projectile fragmentation of 208Pb at 1 GeV/nucleon was used to study so called K-isomers in the neutron-rich isotopes of Lu (Z=71) to Hg (Z=80). READ MORE

3. Cell-autonomous and paracrine mechanisms underlying Pik3ca-driven vascular malformations
Abstract : Vascular malformation is a benign overgrowth of blood or lymphatic vessels leading to life-threatening consequences for affected patients. Activating mutations in the TIE2 receptor cause the majority of venous malformations (VMs), while somatic activating mutations in PIK3CA, leading to the overactivation of the PI3K-AKT pathway, cause both VMs and lymphatic malformations (LMs). 4. Regulation of whole-body glucose and lipid metabolism by skeletal muscle
Abstract : Obesity and associated diseases like type 2 diabetes are rapidly growing health concerns across the globe. The uptake and expenditure of energy in the body are tightly regulated by a plethora of enzymes and hormones in central and peripheral tissues. READ MORE
