  1. 1. Millimeter-wave Networking : Fundamental Limits, Scalable Algorithms, and Design Insights

    Author : Hossein Shokri-Ghadikolaei; Carlo Fischione; Gabor Fodor; Muriel Madard; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The current demands for extremely high data rate wireless services and the spectrum scarcity at the sub-6 GHz bands are forcefully motivating the use of the millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequencies. The main characteristics of mmWave communications are severe attenuation, sparse-scattering environment, huge bandwidth, vulnerability to obstacles and antenna misalignment, massive beamforming, and possible noise-limited operation. 2. 2. Millimeter-Wave Photonics: Signal Sources and Transmission Links

    Author : Andreas Wiberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; microwave photonics; mm-wave generation; radio over fiber; photonic frequency multiplication; millimeter-wave photonics; millimeter-waves; millimeter-wave communication system;

    Abstract : With the use of higher and higher frequencies in a number of current and future wireless millimeter-wave applications it is beneficial to use photonics for several reasons. The use of optical fibers is an advantageous way to transport millimeter-waves in terms of loss, mechanical flexibility, weight, and insensitivity to electromagnetic interference. READ MORE

  4. 4. Location-aided Beam Alignment and Handover in Millimeter-wave Networks

    Author : Sara Khosravi; Marina Petrova; Jens Zander; Sofie Pollin; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Millimeter wave networks; beam alignment; Handover; Reinforcement learning; Millimetervågnätverk; strålinriktning; överlämning; förstärkningsinlärning;

    Abstract : Ever-increasing data rate demands in mobile networks and the spectrum scarcity at the microwave bands have resulted in the exploration of millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequencies for the next generation of wireless networks. While mmWave frequencies offer large bandwidth, communication at these frequencies is not straightforward due to the challenging propagation characteristics. READ MORE

  5. 5. Throughput and Latency of Millimeter-Wave Networks : Performance Analyses and Design Principles

    Author : Guang Yang; Ming Xiao; Mikael Skoglund; Mehdi Bennis; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Telecommunication; Telekommunikation;

    Abstract : Nowadays, the ever-increasing demands on higher data rates and better serviceperformance have posed extremely huge challenges to the existing wireless communicationswithin sub-6 GHz bands, mainly due to the spectrum scarcity in lowerfrequency bands. In recent years, the millimeter-wave (mm-wave) technology, as apromising candidate to meet the aforementioned demands, have attracted extensiveresearch attention, and has been regarded as one of the key enablers for theforthcoming the 5th generation (5G) mobile communications.
