  1. 6. Early steps in the biogenesis of the bc1 complex in yeast mitochondria : The role of the Cbp3-Cbp6 complex in cytochrome b synthesis and assembly

    Author : Steffi Gruschke; Martin Ott; Dennis Winge; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mitochondria; respiratory chain assembly; bc1 complex; mitochondrial gene expression; translational regulation; hemylation; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : The inner membrane of mitochondria harbors the complexes of the respiratory chain and the ATP synthase, which perform the key metabolic process oxidative phosphorylation. These complexes are composed of subunits from two different genetic origins: the majority of constituents is synthesized on cytosolic ribosomes and imported into mitochondria, but a handful of proteins, which represent core catalytic subunits, are encoded in the organellar DNA and translated on mitochondrial ribosomes. 2. 7. Role of embryonic mitochondria in the generation of congenital malformations in diabetic pregnancy

    Author : Xiaolin Yang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; embryo; diabetic pregnancy; congenital malformation; mitochondria; high-amplitudemitochondrial swelling; oxygen uptake; glucose utilization; Crabtree effect; superoxide generation; antioxidant; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : Diabetic pregnancy is associated with an increased incidence of congenital malformations. The teratologicalmechanism may be related to an alteration of embryonic organogenesis by maternal metabolic derangementsduring early gestation. READ MORE

  3. 8. Hypoxic-ischemic injury in the immature brain. Role of mitochondria, caspases and NMDA receptors

    Author : Malgorzata Puka-Sundvall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neonatal; immature rats; hypoxia-ischemia; brain damage; calcium; mitochondria; permeability transition; apoptosis; caspase-3; NMDA receptor; electron microscopy;

  4. 9. Calcium-induced mitochondrial permeability transition in CNS-derived mitochondria - Pharmacological aspects of specificity and toxicity in neuroprotection

    Author : Roland Månsson; Sektion IV; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cyclosporin A; mitochondria; brain; calcium; respiration; cell death; permeability transition; calcium retention; minocycline; neuroprotection; Debio 025;

    Abstract : Mitochondria are the main site for energy conversion in the cell. Under certain circumstances, such as excess calcium retention or production of reactive oxygen species, a pore forms at contact sites between the outer and the normally impermeable inner mitochondrial membrane. 5. 10. Muscle mitochondria in sepsis

    Author : Katarina Fredriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Patients treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) for sepsis induced multiple organ failure often suffer from skeletal muscle fatigue after ICU discharge. Since mitochondria are the main determinants of muscle fatigability, their function in muscle of these patients was the theme of this thesis. READ MORE
