  1. 1. Somatic Mutations in Breast Cancer Genomes : Discovery and Validation of Breast Cancer Genes

    Author : Xiang Jiao; Tobias Sjöblom; Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; breast cancer; cancer gene; pathway; somatic mutation; structural alteration; sequencing; whole genome amplification; Genetics; Genetik; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. However, the genetic alterations that lead to breast cancer are not fully understood. This thesis aims to identify novel genes of potential mechanistic, diagnostic or therapeutic interest in breast cancers by mutational analysis and whole-genome sequencing. READ MORE

  2. 2. Does acetylcholin play a role in mitosis of V79 Chinese hamster cells?

    Author : Cecilia Söderpalm-Berndes; Stephen M Wolniak; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genetics; Genetik; toxikologisk genetik; Genetic Toxicology;

    Abstract : The first stages of mitosis are governed by a cascade of phosphorylations brought about by the universal MPF kinase complex. From a regulatory point of view, less is known about late mitotic events. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mitotic aberrations in mammalian cells

    Author : Anna Renglin Lindh; Thomas Helleday; Micheline Kirsch-Volders; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aneuploidy; mitotic aberrations; chemical effects; human cancer; DNA repair; Genetics; Genetik;

    Abstract : Almost all cancer cells are aneuploid showing the wrong chromosome number and often with structural aberrations. The degree of aneuploidy correlates with an increase of the severity of the disease and tumour cells with chromosomal instability are more prone to acquire resistance to chemotherapy than other cells. 4. 4. Mitotic Kinesin-Like Protein 1 (MKLP1/KIF23) in hereditary congenital dyserythropoietic anemia type III and in cancer

    Author : Ann-Louise Vikberg; Irina Golovleva; Monica Holmberg; Masanori Mishima; Pontus Aspenström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alternative splicing; Cell division; COPI; Congenital dyserythropoietic anemia; Cytokinesis; Gene expression; KIF23 protein human; Cancer; MKLP1 protein mouse; Mutation; medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Abstract : A hereditary form of autosomal dominant congenital dyserythropoietic anaemiatype III (CDA III) has been reported in four families from Sweden, Argentina, Cuba and USA. CDA III patients might experience signs of mild anaemia and some of them need occasional blood transfusions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mechanisms and Consequences of Chromosomal Instability in Malignant tumours

    Author : Ylva Stewénius; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; structural rearrangement; Ewing family tumour; Chromosomal instability; nephroblastoma; Wilms tumour; chromosomal aberration; anaphase bridge; subtelomeric FISH; breakage-fusion-bridge cycle;

    Abstract : In this thesis, telomere deficiency with subsequent anaphase bridging was found to be associated with chromosomal instability in established colorectal cancer cell lines and in Wilms tumour. In colorectal cancer cell lines, anaphase bridging was observed to generate both numerical and structural chromosomal aberrations and was also associated with the presence of multipolar mitoses.
