  1. 21. Mechanics-based Design Framework for Flexible Pavements

    Author : Yared H. Dinegdae; Björn Birgisson; David Newcomb; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mechanics-based; asphalt; fatigue; reliability; traffic; variability; Mekanik-baserade; utmattningssprickor; pålitlighet; lastbilstrafiken; variabilitet; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Load induced top-down fatigue cracking has been recognized recently as a major distress phenomenon in asphalt pavements. This paper presents a mechanics-based design framework in load and resistance factor design (LRFD) format for the top-down fatigue cracking performance evaluation of flexible pavements. READ MORE

  2. 22. Towards the enhanced applicability of cold mix asphalt: : An experimental study focusing on surface free energies and the breaking and coalescence of bitumen emulsions

    Author : Abdullah Khan; Nicole Kringos; Per Redelius; Andreas Loizos; KTH; []
    Keywords : Bitumen; Cold Asphalt Mixtures; Minerals Aggregates; Surface Free Energy; Sorption; Contact Angle; Bitumen Emulsions; Breaking and Coalescence; Emulsifiers; Adhesion Promoters.; Bitumen; kallblandad asfalt; mineraler aggregat; fri ytenergi; sorption; kontaktvinkel; Bitumenemulsioner; brytning och koalescensen; emulgatorer; adhesionsegenskaper; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : The environmental, social and economic sustainability of our infrastructure network is clearly of paramount importance to the road-engineering sector as well to society at large. Sustainable road materials and reduced transport of those materials therefore play a significant role. READ MORE

  3. 23. Policy Mixes for Industrial Transformation: Lessons from Finland and Sweden

    Author : Barbara Hedeler; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; value chains; industrial transformation; transformative innovation policies; process industry; policy mix; biofuels;

    Abstract : An accelerated transition of the existing industry sectors towards low-carbon and renewable energy technologies is crucial to achieving global climate targets and national net zero emission commitments. This thesis departs from the notion that many governments increasingly emphasise the possibilities of combining such a transformation with domestic “green growth”. READ MORE

  4. 24. Fundamental investigation to improve the quality of cold mix asphalt

    Author : Abdullah Khan; Nicole Kringos; Per Redelius; Amit Bhasin; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bitumen; Cold Asphalt Mixtures; Minerals Aggregates; Surface Free Energy; Sorption; Contact Angle; Bitumen Emulsions; Breaking and Coalescence.; Bitumen; kallblandad asfaltmassa; mineraler aggregat; fri ytenergi; sorption; kontaktvinkel; bitumenemulsion; brytning och blandning.; Transportvetenskap; Transport Science;

    Abstract : Cold mix asphalt (CMA) emulsion technology could become an attractive option for the road industry as it offers lower startup and equipment installation costs, energy consumption and environmental impact than traditional alternatives. The adhesion between bitumen and aggregates is influenced by diverse parameters, such as changes in surface free energies of the binder and aggregates or the presence of moisture or dust on the surface of aggregates, mixing temperatures, surface textures (including open porosity), nature of the minerals present and their surface chemical composition, as well as additives in the binder phase. 5. 25. Design approaches for grouting of rock fractures; Theory and practice

    Author : Jalaleddin Yaghoobi Rafi; Stefan Larsson; Håkan Stille; Thomas Dalmalm; Lars Ericsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Grouting; Rock mechanics; Jacking; penetration length; Järnvägsgruppen - Infrastruktur; Järnvägsgruppen - Infrastruktur;

    Abstract : Currently, cement base grout is used widely for sealing of the rock fractures in order to decrease the permeability of rock mass. Grouting procedure is one of the main tasks in cycle of rock excavation. In addition, huge amount of grout should be used during dam construction in order to seal the bedding and embankment walls.
