  1. 1. Study of Ni3Al- and MoSi2-based Materials for High Temperature Structural Applications

    Author : Karin Anne Xia Gong; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Intermetallic; Ni3Al; MoSi2;

    Abstract : In general, the potential of current conventional high-temperature materials has been exploited to a large extent. The industries are therefore looking forward to development of alternative materials for their industrials application, which would be lighter, stronger and having improved higher temperature potential compared to the presently available alloys. 2. 2. On the Oxidation Behaviour of MoSi2 and (Mo,W)Si2 - The Influence of Oxygen and Water Vapour

    Author : Kristina Hansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; temperature dependence; oxidation; Mo2 OH 2; MoSi2; Mo; W Si2; water vapour;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the oxidation of a clay-bonded MoSi2 composite (KanthalSuper 1800) and a clay-bonded (Mo,W)Si2-based composite (KanthalSuper 1900) which are used as heating elements at temperatures of up to approximately 1800°C and 1850°C, respectively, in industrial furnaces. These ceramics are ideal for use at these temperatures due to their excellent oxidation behaviour at high temperatures, which is ascribed to the formation of a protective silica scale. READ MORE

  5. 5. Structural Silicides - Processing, Microstructure and Toughening

    Author : Danqing Yi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; toughening; solid solubility; processing; microstructures; mechanical properties; composites; silicides; crystal structure; alloying effects; phase transformation;

    Abstract : Molybdenum disilicide is a promising candidate material for high temperature structural uses. However, its room-temperature toughness is rather low and has to be improved. The objective of this thesis is to improve the fracture toughness of MoSi2 by alloying and composite processes. READ MORE
