1. Stochastic model updating and model selection with application to structural dynamics
Abstract : Uncertainty induced by our incomplete state of knowledge about engineering systems and their surrounding environment give rise to challenging problems in the process of building predictive models for the system behavior. One such challenge is the model selection problem, which arises due to the existence of invariably multiple candidate models with different mathematical forms to represent the system behavior, and so there is a need to assess their plausibility based on experimental data. 2. Vibrational Response Reconstruction and Model Validation
Abstract : In this thesis, laboratory response reconstruction andcomputational model validation is investigated. The former concernsapplications of control theory as the objective is to reproduce acertain loading for a known component, while the latter concernsoptimization of a parameterized model as the objective is to modifya computational model to mimic a certain component's behavior. 3. Systematic planning and execution of finite element model updating
Abstract : In design of bridges and for estimation of dynamic properties and load carrying capacity Finite Element Method (FEM) is often used as a tool. The physical quantities used in the Finite Element (FE) model are often connected to varying degrees of uncertainty. READ MORE

4. Railway bridge response to passing trains : Measurements and FE model updating
Abstract : Today’s railway bridges are analysed in more detail for moving loads due to the increase in speeds and axle loads. However, these numerical analyses are very time consuming as they often involve many simulations using different train configurations passing at different speeds and many considerations to take into account. 5. Test Design for Finite Element Model Updating - Identifiable Parameters and Informative Test Data
Abstract : It is important to predict structural phenomena, such as noise and fatigue, stemming from vibrations. To do this, reliable structural dynamic models are needed. To be useful the models have to compare well with reality in the validation against test data; if not, the models should be modified. READ MORE
