  1. 1. Modification of fluff pulp fibres: Cross-linking and alkali extraction

    Author : Kristoffer Lund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fibre network; dry defibration; network strength; fluff pulp; Absorption; cross-linking; alkali extraction; kraft pulp;

    Abstract : Fluff pulp has been one of the key components of hygienic products, such as diapers, for many years. Fluff pulp is dry defibrated and air-laid into the absorption core of diapers. The introduction of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) in the 1980s decreased the dependence on fluff pulp, as the SAPs became the main absorbing material. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modifying kraft pulping to produce a softwood pulp requiring less energy in tissue paper production

    Author : Hafizur Rahman; Per Engstrand; Mikael E. Lindström; Louise Logenius; Peter Sandström; Ulf Germgård; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : Modifying kraft pulp; tissue dewatering; polysulfide; sodium borohydride; tensile index; hemicellulose;

    Abstract : Modification of softwood kraft pulp by the addition of either polysulfide (PS) or sodium borohydride (NaBH4) has been shown to increase the pulp yield due to a higher retention of glucomannan.  The pulps with higher yield gave a paper with higher tensile index than reference pulp, especially at lower degrees of refining. 3. 3. Adsorption of xylans on cellulosic fibres -Influence of xylan composition on adsorption characteristics and kraft pulp properties

    Author : Tobias Köhnke; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Xylan; Hornification; Lignin-carbohydrate complexes; Cationization; Isolation; Softwood kraft pulp; Extraction; Adsorption;

    Abstract : Xylans are polysaccharides present in large amounts in cell walls of vascular plants. They possess an inherent affinity to cellulose and will thus adsorb irreversibly on cellulose surfaces. READ MORE

  4. 4. Towards an accurate determination of lignin in chemical pulps : The meaning of kappa number as a tool for analysis of oxidable groups

    Author : Jiebing Li; KTH; []
    Keywords : TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Lignin content is the most important parameter in chemicalpulping. At present, kappa number is the most common parameterfor determination of lignin content and the base for otheron-line methods and for industrial automation (Chapter 1). READ MORE

  5. 5. Lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases for green production of cellulose nanomaterials

    Author : Salla Koskela; Qi Zhou; Markus Linder; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cellulose; enzyme; CNC; CNF; LPMO; nanocellulose; wood; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Abstract : Cellulose is the main structural polymer in wood, and its potential in the form of nanomaterial building blocks, nanocelluloses, has now been recognized. Nanocelluloses, including cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), have become increasingly important in development of modern sustainable materials. READ MORE
